We brewed this one with Maris Otter barley, some rye malt for an added spicy note, and a Belgian crystal malt that has a wonderful fruity, caramel flavor. We make our own Belgian candi syrup and cook it down to add more caramelization. The yeast comes from a Trapping monastery in Belgium and imparts flavors of plum, raisin, berries, and lots of exotic spices. The rye malt accentuates the spiciness from the yeast.

    Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Pours clear reddish-golden with a fairly thick ivory head. Aroma presents fruity, rye, honey and subtle malty tones. Crisp flavor delivers rye, fruity, hoppy, malty, and cinnamon hard candy notes. Mouthfeel features decent body and good fizz; finish is spicy and fruity. OK, who is brewing on Grant’s Tomb? (Technically, nobody is buried in Grant’s tomb - it’s above ground.)
