Lighter and less bitter than a typical IPA, 10 Barrel’s India Summer Ale was brewed especially for the Brewers Festival. Medium bodied with moderate hop bitterness, it has a citrusy hop aroma from four additions of hops in the boil, plus dry hopping. It’s a little matlier than the typical IPA but watch out, the alcohol level of 6.7% might sneak up on you.

Bottle. 5.5% abv. Light in color and body. While the flavor and aroma is muted, it imparts a pleasant tropical fruitiness, a light grain bill, and just enough buttering hops to notice. Not sure of this was super fresh, but it was still enjoyable.

Had this on tap recently in Portland and was digging it. Golden orange colour with a medium sized head. Nose is pretty tropical. Plenty of pine up in here. Some sweet, fruity notes, touch of honey and grapefruit on the palate. Long lingering finish.

Sampled at GABF on 9/17/2010. This India Pale Ale pours a light gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, floral hops. A light to medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are fruity, cereal and sweet. The hops are herbal and citrusy. Nice carbonation. A light and refreshing IPA. Kind of scaled down to for a summer beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
