1 | Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale | Australia | English Strong Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 A great Old Ale, and a damn fine English Strong...I guess this blurs things just a bit for me. Anyway, rich maltiness dominates with huge backup from a combined fruitiness that seems to arise from everwhere, the malt, hops and yeast. From apricots and plums, to raisins, vanilla and tiny hints of apple, this is one damn fine beer. |

3 | Schloss Eggenberg Samichlaus Bier | Austria | Doppelbock | 3.6
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 2004 vinatage...Seemed almost like a british barleywine as much as a dopplebock, to date its the highest alcohol beer i've yet had. Rather simplistic for how big of a beer it is, malt and alchol is really all that came across. Some caramel and whiskey notes, but I would expect some spice or resin to it. |

5 | Orval | Belgium | Belgian Ale | 4.1
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Orval is gorgeous, though notup to Trappist standards in all other areas, IMO. Still a good beer, its sour, tart sour, slight bitterness, some sugar and citrus, fruity and complex, but just doesn't work as well at other belgains. RERATE 2/18/06 Wonderful. Now I really understand this beer. Like a trippel/2 and soured. What a genius beer. |

6 | Stella Artois | Belgium | Lager | 2.2
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Belgium and Interbrew, huh? Well that makes sense, I guess. Quite, quite bland, but still better than most eurolagers I've come across. Very little aroma. The best thing about the flavor is that it did not totally disentigrate as it warmed. |

10 | Saison de Pipaix | Belgium | Saison | 3.0
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 6 sampled 5/28/05 from 1995 vintage I think this wasn't quite the cellaring type. It came across the tongue as sour and sour and sour and even a little rotten. Although I could taste some of a good beer behind it, there was too much lactic to stand it. Nice reddish orange, though. |

11 | Rochefort Trappistes 8 | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.4
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 I just cannot get over how good these Trappist beers are. Freshness dated 12/25/07, but I couldn't wait a second longer. Very fruity, raisens, apricots, plumbs, and plenty of spicy character. Deep red/brown, light lace in the snifter. OK I've got to go attempt to culture this yeast.... |

12 | St. Bernardus Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.4
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 What an excellent brew from Belgium, yet again. Pours a great amber color with lots of white fluffy head in the snifter. Just enough haze to really make the beer glow. In those nose is light caramel, floral, citrus, banana, a hint of spice, etc., etc... Slightly sticky in the mouth and swallow, but smooth as can be. Generous caramel in the mouth, floral hops that don't overpower, some maple syrup quality, and all kinds of tasty. This is a champion which really excells in the aftertaste, as everthing comes together. |

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Those monks don't fool around with their beer, and it shows. Another great Trappist offering, fruity, plumbs and bananas, some spice and hoppier nose and flavor as it warmed, an exercise in balance, for sure. Nice and dark to the last drop and a nice beige head that laced minimally. |

17 | Abbaye des Rocs Brune | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 2.8
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6 Poured a dark copper with lots of fluffy, eggshell head however there was plenty of precipitate in the glass and it was rather flaky, not particulate like most sediment. Smelled of green apples, caramel, raisins and coffee. There was some odd astringency in the flavor that didn't expecially interfere with the mouthfeel. It went beyond the nominal dryness for most Belgians. Unfortunately this one was just out of whack and I cannot reccomend it highly on this tasting. |

19 | Corsendonk Pater (Abbey Brown Ale) | Belgium | Abbey Dubbel | 4.2
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 A very, very nice dubbel. I had this at a brew club meeting last night. Poured deep brown with a huge fluffy head that hung around like a pillow for some time. Sweetly balanced, but not cloying with rich caramel and raisin flavors, touches of figs and others. Very nice. |

20 | Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.2
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 I enjoyed this after the St. Louis Brews meeting last night, thanks to Kevin for sharing. Smelled of tropical fruits and American hops, like pineapples and mangoes, what a start. Poured bright yellow with a touch of haze and had the some the thickest lace, and creamiest, longest lasting head I've seen in the long time from a commercial brew. Tasted of bright citrus hops, with some spicy Saaz, belgian spice, light pils malt and all tied together with soft carbontion and a nice bitter finish. Unique and fascinating, I bet this would be better with a little bit of time behind it, too. |

21 | Hanssens Oude Kriek | Belgium | Fruit Lambic | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Poured a rich, earthy red, just like I'd imagined. Smelled of well, barnyard, cherries and thin maltiness. Vinegar notes poked through the acidity and well matched carbonation. As the beer warmed the mouthfeel grew more satisfying until it reached room temperature and the beer fell flat. A very nice brew, and I agree with JohnC, this would match great with a cheesecake |

22 | Duvel | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.4
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 Wow! I can't believe I haven't got around to having and reviewing this gem. Smelled of belgian fruit, tiny hops, sweetness. Poured brilliant gold with just slight haze and massive, fluffy head that lasted until I rinsed the glass out twice. Low spice, high fruit. Nice, crist mouthfeel, filling and coating but not intrusive, very unassuming. This is a classic on par with Anchor Steam, Pilsner Urquell, SNPA, Two Hearted, Westmalle Tripel and other such high company. |

23 | Gouden Carolus Classic | Belgium | Belgian Strong Ale | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Served as a sample at the Lukas Liquors Saturday beer tasting. Aromatic fruits, pineapple, mango and banana with very mild spice. Bright gold with small eggshell foam cap, pilsner-eque mouthfeel with more malt and soft carbonation. Maltiness, fruit and spicy hops across the tongue. Very nice beer. |

24 | Cantillon Kriek | Belgium | Fruit Lambic | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 A nice sour brew, but it stands in the shadow of some of the greats. Excellent funky aroma and eggshell head over copper red body. Smooth and acidic mouthfeel. Funky, sour aroma, nice pilsner malty backing. Nice, but I would really like more cherry in this. The flavor is there, but not as aggressive as it needs to be to be really great. |

25 | Gouden Carolus Tripel | Belgium | Abbey Tripel | 4.0
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 A fine Tripel for sure. Alcoholic, spicy and slightly fruity. Very phenolic and would benefit from some aging and, well, I'd like more hops, but still a classic example of the style, but just not definitive, even for the first country of brewing rebels. |
