January 2017: 750 ml corked & caged bottle, from Super Cor Expres, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. ABV is 5.5%. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate white head. Malty aroma, notes of wort and grain. The flavour is slightly more dry than sweet, again malty and grainy, just a little hops in the finish. No masterpiece this one.

February 2014: 330 ml slimline can, as 1906 Año Reserva Especial, produced in Spain for Hijos de Rivera. www.club1906.es . ABV is 6.5%. Ingredients include maize. Golden (nearly deep golden) colour, moderate white head. Fairly decent aroma of grassy hops. The flavour is "dusty", bland and boring, but not offensive.

February 2015: Shared 375 ml bottle at local tasting. Pitch black colour, low tan head. Nice roasty aroma, notes of molasses, coffee and liquorice, also plenty of oak and orange liqueur The flavour is not too sweet, roasty coffee notes, discrete hints of orange in the background.

July 2016: RBESG 2016 in Barcelona, Grand Tasting. Hazy pale golden colour. Lovely sourish farmhouse aroma. Sour lemony & brettanomyces flavour. Enjoyable.

May 2020: 330 ml bottle, batch #24, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.6%. Never mind that the guys at Nedstrand bryggeri can't spell "exaggeration", this appears as an interesting beer. Very dark brown colour, nearly black, with a moderate tan head. Malty aroma, notes of brown malts more than roast malts, hints of nuts. Smooth mouthfeel. Rich and malty flavour, some sweetness but not too much, with toasted and roasted malts, a hint of chocolate, decent hops, nicely balanced. Enjoyable to drink.

January 2020: 500 ml bottle, from Skjold Burne Hjørring. ABV is 10%, IBU 50. Hops are Magnum and Mosaic. Black colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roast malts, mild coffee, vanilla and lactose. Sweet flavour with the same ingredients, very distinct chocolate, vanilla and lactose, also caramel. Maybe too sweet? Roast malts, coffee and bittering hops in the aftertaste.

February 2003: (Cask conditioned). I had just a taste of this at the Wear Valley CAMRA beer festival, will need to have it again. Some natural carbonation, low head. Very malty aroma and flavour, low bitterness. Typical Northeastern English style.

November 2018: On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Amber colour, large head, slightly off-white. Aroma of amber malts, fruity hops and juniper berries. The flavour is slightly more dry than sweet, with fairly distinct hops, sufficient malts with roasty hints, and discrete juniper berries. Well balanced and very drinkable.
