Can. Colour - deep gold, very clear, frothy white head which quickly disappears, no ;acing. Aroma - wet cardboard, stale bread, maybe a musty hop note or two. Mouthfeel - thin bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - very grainly, some metallic off-flavours, no hops.

Draught. Colour – pale yellow gold with good effervescence and a half inch frothy white cap. Lacing is decent. Aroma – bready malt notes, citrus hops, weak pine notes, and toffee. Mouthfeel – medium bodied, over carbonated. Flavour – sweet bready malt, light notes of caramel, but not well balanced as the citrus hop finish is very weak.

Bottle. Colour – hazed orange-gold colour with a small white cap, and very little lacing. Aroma – light fruits, light herbs (I’m assuming what herbed notes there were was hibiscus), and floral hops. Mouthfeel – body was on the light side and carbonation was on the high side. Sort of more of a soda pop mouthfeel than a beer mouthfeel. Flavour – very malty up front with hints of hibiscus and fruity hops in the finish. I really didn’t care for this beer.

Bottle. Colour – clear copper colour, thin creamy light brown head, good lacing. Aroma – dark fruit and caramel with notes of fresh bread, and musty hops. Mouthfeel – full bodied, well carbonated. Flavour – starts off nice and sweet with notes of caramel and roasted malt. The finish is quite bitter and there is a hint of alcohol present on the tongue.

Can. Colour – a very dark brown pour, almost black. Head is creamy but thin. Lacing is minimal. Aroma – coffee, dark chocolate, and roasted malt are the strongest aromatic notes with minor notes of vanilla and cherry. Mouthfeel – medium bodied, well carbonated. Flavour – a whole lot of coffee and chocolate with back notes of anise and vanilla. Would have been great had the body been heavier.

From a trip to Finland circa 2004. Draught. Colour - murky dark brown, thin tan coloured cap, some weak lacing. Aroma - roasted malt tones, dark fruits, musty hops. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, lightly carbonated. Flavour - thin roasted malt flavour with hints of fruit and bread. There was no depth of flavour was one would expect from a dark lager.

Draught. Colour - rust colour, quite clear, foamy white cap, nice effervescence, nice lacing. Aroma - light fruit notes, biscuity malt, earthy hops. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, good carbonation. Flavour - very malty up front with the grain coming through, and a nice bitter hop bite at the end. Pretty good beer.

Can. Colour - a solid brownish-black colour, big creamy brown head, very good lacing. Aroma - roasted malt, dark chocolate, black cherry, nuts. Mouthfeel - full bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - a lot of dark chocolate and coffee with hints of black licorice in the finish. A good beer I would try again.

Bottle. Colour - rich mahogany colour, pretty opaque when held to light, thin rocky cream coloured cap, minimal lacing. Aroma - christmas spices, nutty malt, yeast, dark fruits, and fresh baked bread. Mouthfeel - medium bodied, well carbonated. Flavour - Sweet and malty to start with but the spices and the bitter hops do come through in the finish,

Draught. Colour - clear reddish-gold, half inch white cap, decent lacing. Aroma - toasted caramel, herbal hops, metallic notes. Mouthfeel - almost medium bodied, good carbonation. Flavour - stale grains, weak notes of caramel, a weak hoppy finish. Good for it's day but would fail miserably now.
