Still will go one day, but keeping it closer to home (and less crowded) the rest of the year, and planning running/drinking trips to SF, Chico, Portland, and Carlsbad in the spring. I sure would love to do Firstone Walker's AV party again, but not this year...

All of the above. Pretty stoked on it. It's definitely high on the list of beer related things I've always wanted to do. Really looking forward to all the events around town during that week.

I shouldn't even mention this contest to my friends, because after I win, you'll just be jealous and accuse me of rigging the results. I swear I am not trying to rub it in. Can't you just be happy for me? Go ahead and enter (contest closes Aug 27th) and let me say in advance, better luck next year! https://www.facebook.com/PortnerBrewhouse/app_79458893817 UPDATE as of 15 Oct: At one time, the link above pointed to a contest for 2 tickets to the GBAF, sponsored by Portner Brewhouse. My contest rigging skills took a hit, as I did not win after all!
The GABF website's searchable database of winners has been updated with the full 2013 results. http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com/the-competition/winners/ The Commons did well, adding 2 more silvers to their medal collection. (Way to go, Trav!) Virginia did quite well, too: 14 medals, including 4 for my local Port City, plus small brewery & brewer for repeat winner Jason Oliver at Devil's Backbone.

Devil's backbone killed it...again. Some of the best lagers at the fest and yet they had the shortest lines! Pretty amazing to see how a festival of this magnitude is so well executed. Hope to be back next year!
