Prairie Artisan Ales

Brewery Discussion by SLOWRUNNER77

I've only had a couple, but it sure seems like this is another solid and upcoming OK brewer...

Chase, the brewmaster, started at COOP, then Redbird and is now brewing under his new label in Krebs at Choc. He's experienced and the guys at Choc are certainly doing good work producing his beers. Choc had the Prairie Standard on tap. Very tasty session beer and available only a 4 minute drive from the office!

Sipping on a Standard now, pretty tasty. I'll certainly buy it again. I was a little surprised to see it here in KY! I also have a bomber of Prairie Ale (saison) in the fridge, saving it for the weekend. Just one other bomber style on the store shelf, Prairie Gold, I'll grab next time. So far, I'm impressed!

Here's a project that they have underway presently. Prairie Artisan Ales has 16 large wine barrels. They fermented a rye saison in them. Each barrel got a different bacteria treatment and they will be making blends and rebrewing this as an ongoing project. This level of creativity makes loving beer so much fun. Lots to look forward to with the first of this series hitting Oklahoma shelves in about 6 weeks.

Everything I've had from these guys has been pretty solid. Glad we're getting some of this brew in Portland.

After finally getting to the rest of what Hannah sent, I've reached a couple conclusions (in addition to cementing that this is a very good brewer)... Bomb! is the, well, bomb. In the discussion for best of the year for me. I was angry it was only 12 ounces [:D] They seem to over barrel their barreled stuff. Not that they are bad. Not at all. But if you're looking for balance, it ain't there. Pirate Noir, which was 3% abv lower than Bomb! was way hotter, and thinner, and was rum with stout instead of the other way around. I'm not a rum drinker, but I don't dislike it either. Okie was the same, but with whiskey. I liked it more because the whiskey was good and I like it more than rum, but definitely could be better with less time in the barrels. We get some of their beers here, but none of the one's Hannah sent. I sure hope that changes. Thanks, Hannah. That was quite the trade!

Another beer (Merica) another hit. I've reached the point where if I see anything new from them on the shelf it's ending up in the cart (or basket...I'm not an alcoholic!).

Another beer, another hit. Funky Galaxy was delicious. Wishing they weren't so expensive (will make repeats pretty rare) but they are damn tasty!

Probably my mistake/haste when adding it. I agree that it should be classified as an American barleywine.

Rookie [;)] Thanks again for the bottle - it was very very well received by myself and my buddy Dave, the barleywine lover.
