Oktoberfest 2012
General Beer Discussion by KINGER
Came home today with a growler of Victory Festbier, and I'm happy as hell. From here on out I do decree Oktoberfest Season open! Man I love this style.

And that lucky bastard PfoxyJohn is in Germany right now, and planning on going to Munich to THE Oktoberfest. Now that would be a good BeerPal meetup.[:)]

All play and no work makes John a tired boy. Gotta justify a trip, right?[:)]

My favorite thing about Okoberfest? B'Lou's bevy of buxom babes. I am sure I am not the only person to notice and appreciate the rotating Bier Fraulein (Brau Frau?) avatar. Nice work!

Waiting for Surly WET to come out before making an order from france44 that will include Tyranena's Pumpkin beer and (finally) Surly Fest...
Not the same this year, as I had to miss the first weekend due to being incapacitated....My left knee decided to swell up like a frigging grapefruit for no apparant reason, and I was kooped up indoors in major pain all weekend last weekend...had three viles of yellow liquid crap cyphined from my knee over the course of three doctor appointment...Missing half of an Okfest is like missing half of Christmas......But we went Friday and last night, hobbling around with a cane....was a grand time regardless of the handicap....The Penn was packed and the music, food and brew were flowing nicely.....I just wish I could have that second weekend back.....Glass half full I suppose.....[8D][B)][:p][}:)].........

Well, so far I've found plenty of new ones. 10 and counting. Unfortunately, most have been average or below. You'd think by the numbers I'm not a fan, but I think there is more too it than that. Too many mediocre marzens out there and not enough standouts. I'll hand it to Sam Adams. The 2012 batch was nice. I have not been a fan of that one at all, but enjoyed this year's. The newbs: Harpoon 3.4 Karl Strauss 3.3 Pyramid 3.3 Flying Fish 3.1 Leinenkugel 3.1 Lakefront 3.1 Tenaya Creek 3.0 Shiner 96 2.9 Josephsbrau 2.8 Dundee 2.7 ~Average 3.07. Anybody else have ideas for nationally distributed or west coast marzens I haven't tried yet? Not ready to throw in the towel just yet.
Oops...didnt go back far enough. Of 11, the first, had 8/25, was nice. Firestone Walker Oaktoberfest at a 3.7, only a tenth off my favorites in-style (Bells, New Glarus, Paulaner, Ayinger) not including Great Divide Hoss Rye Lager, which I LOVE for it's unique flavor and aroma.

It's definitely my favorite "seasonal" style, just sits perfect within the weather change, football, campfires. Plus the tradition behind it and tastiness are great as well.

Not a favorite style for me, but one I do like. And it's football season so theres a cognitive (positive) correlation between fall beers and football [:D]. Hoping to find a couple new Octoberfests this year, and to revisit a couple favorites.
