R.I.P Flipbrewer

With total shock and sadness I hate to report that today I learned of the passing of Ernie G. Tolentino better known as Flipbrewer. http://www.beerpal.com/members/memberinfo.asp?UID=2458 I did have the pleasure of meeting him once in 2006 at one of the Noogfests. He was a great guy and someone I talked to on a regular basis both on beer sites and phone conversations from time to time. I was hoping to visit San Francisco sometime in the near future to share a beer with him, looks like I'll have to wait a little longer on that pint. Cheers my friend.

This is devastating and shocking. Ernie was a very deep, complex, generous, and loyal friend. He set me up with homebrew supplies for my 28th birthday, gave me a TCHO chocolate addiction, and we often spent hours on the phone, cooking up ways to embarrass Matt. I loved him. He struggled with bouts of depression and would 'disappear' for months at a time, but always came back okay. Fuck.
Just an FYI, for those who are interested: I contacted the Coroner's office today. Ernie's body has not been positively identified yet, however, my description matched. No information available yet as to the cause of death. Will keep you posted if his brother makes contact about future arrangements.

Wow - that's some shit news. Never met him, but condolences to those who knew him. Rest in Peace...
As a tribute to Flipbrewer, I searched for some old posts for interesting, humorous, or revealing moments. There are many of them! I liked this one a lot. I hope seeing / re-reading old comments by Flipbrewer / Ernie revives pleasant memories for those who knew him well. A piece of him lives on here.

Also, I've had a couple brews that quickly fermented in just 2-3 days and were ready to transfer to secondary; others needed more time to complete. Monitor the activity (if it's in a glass carboy) and/or check if the airlock's stopped bubbling away. If it has, take a hydrometer reading to see if it's really done. The directions given in recipes/kits are just guidelines. Good luck! [:D]
