Arachnophilia

Non-Beer Discussion by MATTFUNGUS

I'm at the American Arachnology Society meeting this weekend. Nothing like 70 geeks all talking about how they love spiders, watching slides of spiders as an icebreaker to tell their favorite spider stories. One woman identified herself as a spider pornographer. She takes photographs of female spiders sex organs of spiders that are the size of a head of a pin. She does this to help spider researchers identify these tiny similar looking species. Beer here too, but do to campus food monopoly the most diverse things are leinies honey wheat and new castle brown.

I love gatherings like that. I was at Oxford University once with other members of the Lewis Carroll Society to geek out on the man and his work. Have fun!

I guess every niche group geeks out on their "thing". I'm a part of several such groups. You've never heard suck geekery until you get a bunch of artillerymen together to discuss manual gunnery computations, to include met data and ballistic characteristics of the various types of rounds. Fun! Have a great trip.

I like to geek out with Wagner fans. Going to the Bayereuth Festspeilhaus for the Ring Cycle is on my Bucket List. Not quite as passionate about spiders, but I get the geek vibe. I guess that's why they say, to each his own. Geek on, Mr. Shroom!

at this conference they talked about how boring their website is and how they would like to make it better. I suggested the beerpal model. What I liked about your model was the breaking it up into sections. For spiders I could see the regionals you pals have, but then an index that includes things such as individual species, morphology, research projects, photos. They feared the tarantula pet people would take over. I suggested that they come up with a forum index for just pets. to see how text/link heavy this site currently is check out http://www.americanarachnology.org/ Highlights from today Daddy long legs can wrap their legs around twigs like monkeys do with their tails. Some spiders drink nectar. Hinterland Pale Ale, NG Spotted Cow and Capital Amber were the most purchased beers at the spider tailgate.
