Rogue brewing a beer, made from what??
General Beer Discussion by STOUTLOVER72
So Rogue is apparently going to make a beer using a yeast that was cultivated from the brewmaster's beard. Two things... 1) Ewwwww 2) Thank God the brewmaster isn't female, or they might have tried cultivating yeast from somewhere else. http://www.beerpulse.com/2012/06/rogue-ales-to-create-beer-using-yeast-from-brewmasters-beard-follicles/

Hey now [;)] I'll even be first in line to buy chicha, or weasel poop anything. Those have scientific purposes behind their grossness. This Rogue beard-yeast thing just seems stupid. The Brewdog of Oregon...

I am all for trying new things, but have NO desire whatsoever to try this beer. Why???

As a yeast thief myself, I find it intriguing, though I think I would have preferred that from the beard of the ancient shaolin monk.[|)] Still if it is related to candida menangitis I will pass....[xx(]

its just yeast... you can't get sick from it, it won't taste like cheeto crumbs.. [:0] i'd try it once, no beer is off limits..

Good point, but I'm guessing this will have a premium price tag too. I guess I'll try anything, but not at any price. This one holds no actual appeal, so it'd have to be cheap...and I don't see that happening.

So, my guess is that the strain in th beard is likely the Rogue house strain - the guy is likely covered in the stuff. To find out, my PhD buddy and I are going to swab the bottle, grow it up and sequence it. Then we will compare it to their house strain that they deposited at the ATCC. I shall report back. We can do it here where I work as a "lunch hour" activity! [UPDATE. Turns out I should've read the article first. It has already been confirmed that the strains are not the same] In related news, that same buddy is going to swab my scalp. Yeast is responsible for dandruff. I occasionally get dandruff - next time I do, we'll swab it, brew with it, and call it "Cradle Cap Ale - good from head to shoulders!"
