hops bittering burnout

General Beer Discussion by MATTFUNGUS

I have recently tried a few beers that I usually like (dark horse crooked tree ipa and anderson hop ottiin') only to find that the both have a sharp bitter after taste that won't go away. Am I burned out on hops? Or is this possibly an effect of old beer? (no born on dates on these beers)

It happens. I just switch to new varieties and eventually my taste for the style comes back. Sometimes, beers seem to change based on the batch, that is also possible.

Good advice from heemer. I bought a fresh sixer of Sierra Nevada Torpedo this past week and I had trouble getting past the bitterness along with the lack of the juicy fruity hop flavor usually found in this beer. This time it just didn't do it for me. Sip on some malty brews for a while then come back to the hop bombs.

Heresy this all is. Hopefully it is just the bottles or an evolving taste for better but still hoppy beers ;).

those are about 50th percentile ipas for me, but the numbers on this site are 96 and 97...kinda surprising. whatever the problem, HOPSLAM will fix it :) Or maybe a Pliny...
