Tim Tebow
Non-Beer Discussion by OIZNOP
Impressive....Reminded me of Ken Stabler....He has a knack and potential to be a great quarterback....And who cares if he wears his faith on his sleeve....Here's hoping he continues to do so and it PISSES OFF the so called "unbiased" "open-minded" and "enlightened" ones, and some day wins a Super Bowl to really drive them crazy...[:0][:0][:0][:0][:0][:0][:0]....Good luck against the Patsies.....

I wrote this for another forum, but thought I'd post here as well; lengthy, yes, but read, if you will - comment-refute-like-dislike - I'm cool with it - just my thoughts... and there's my $0.02: I’m sick of Tim Tebow. OK, now that I have your attention I’ll qualify that remark. I am NOT sick of Tim Tebow as an individual, football player, devout Christian or any other personal or professional reason. I am sick of the constant barrage of the media – news, sports, entertainment, etc. – in covering his every move on and off the field. I know professional sports players are considered quasi-celebrities by some and must bear some burden of being in the public eye… “it comes with the job” as some may suggest. It was bad enough when it was the talking head sports casters on the 24-7 sports talk radio and news (ESPN, etc.) that contended that he would never make it in the NFL, that he wasn’t good enough, that he wasn’t a ‘real’ quarterback, etc. for whatever reason. Now that they’ve almost unanimously made such proclamations, I think that they collectively hope that he fails. Think about it: these sports ‘experts’ (many of which I would suggest are self-proclaimed) make their living off of what they say about any given player or team, so if they’re wrong who wants to listen to them anymore? Who wants to keep paying their salaries to make erroneous predictions/announcements? Ratings suffer and sooner or later, the position becomes untenable for the announcer and the media outlet. Thus, the announcers who have made such suggestions as to Tebow’s ability (or inability) to play in the NFL must hope that he fails – for their own sakes. From where I stand, as a novice but avid football fan, the quarterback’s job, regardless of what type of quarterback or system, is to lead the team. He’s the guy on the field (the coach’s designated representative) that calls the shots and makes decisions on behalf of the team. Tebow is leading the team – and the Broncos are playing to his strengths… isn’t that what it’s all about? I think the announcers are caught in the same trap as in the days before the forward pass. They’re in a quagmire of status quo and their own little comfort zones (or fiefdoms in some cases) and cannot or will not accept that things change; the games changes – and players, coaches (and talking head experts) must change as well. Tebow is the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, he is a leader, he is a Christian, the Broncos have an improved record with him at quarterback… why the controversy? He’ll most likely never be a Payton Manning or Tom Brady, nor should he; he should just continue to be the best Tim Tebow he can be. Now, on to Bill Maher and his recent comments. While not defending Maher’s stupidity, he does have as much right to make such comments and express his opinion as Tebow does to pray in the end zone or on the sideline or wherever else he decides to pray. Maher’s recent Tweet regarding Tebow was in poor taste in my own opinion, but he has his and I have mine – so be it. However, what is the difference between what Maher did and the current rage of ‘cyber-bullying’? It appears to me that Maher’s comments are about as professional and on-par with a 12-year-old girl with an attitude that didn’t get invited to a birthday party. Is that the best he can do? Belittle someone for expressing themselves? I don’t expect much from Maher (and yes, I’ve watched his show a bit – Sun Tzu, remember?), but resorting to such unprofessional and immature conduct is – well, indicative of jealousy and insecurity. Now, some may contend that I am resorting to the same type of behavior as Maher in attacking him. I’m not really – just using what forum I have available to express my own opinion in a (hopefully) much more professional manner. While I could probably weave a tapestry of obscenities in my thoughts about Maher and his Tweet, I have chosen not to. And for the record, I hope that Maher does not apologize to Tebow, his audience or anyone else for his Tweet… I don’t think he needs to – and besides that’s so cliché… and we all know that when people apologize like that, they really don’t mean it.

Good view fb. I think Tebow is a natural born leader. He's a winner... and I hate the Florida Gators just as much if not more than any non-Gator fan. He will be successful long after football. He seems to be a pretty good guy and I have no problem with him expressing his Faith. The NFL and sports in general need more positive stories like Tebow. He may be a lightning rod but his energy and tone are positive. As an NFL QB? Time will only tell. He can get lots better. The Denver Broncos are in the second round of the Playoffs. 'Nuf said. Now excuse me while I go throw up over giving a Gator some credit...

I wonder if all the enlightened liberals who take liberty at Tebow's faith, would have the same balls to bash another QB who was...oh...let's say perhaps was black and a Muslim. My spider-sense tells me no. I can only pull for Tebow so much, since he's part of the despised Broncos. But yeah...he's a positive role model that apparently lives the Christian life, which many people who claim they are Christian don't have the guts to be one on a daily basis.

Another QB as you referenced would be applauded by the sports media, hell all of the media, for his profession of faith... only the Christians get the raw deal.
