General Beer Discussion by SLOWRUNNER77
this website was highly touted and advertised on beernews/beerpulse for having a good selection of Surly and other midwest brews. The only problem is, is that they seem to have no problem selling old/expired product. I know they are not alone in this, but they ain't even trying. At least in a store you can check the bottles that do have dates. So far in the order, the Octoberfests have been the only relatively fresh beer. Commodore Perry expired a few weeks before we made the order, and the bottles were dated. Doppelrock expired MONTHS before the order, and was dated. And Surly Furious was not dated, but obviously nowhere near fresh. 2/5...not so good.

My buddy paid for this particular order, which almost takes the sting out, but not quite. The Furiouswas still ok, but significantly faded. The others were ok, but all first timers for me, so probably would score higher if not old...

hell, the only reason i'm not buying beer online (or trading) is it kills my bank account.. its like crack dipped in nicotine wrapped in bacon.....

i didn't cuz it was not my order. i beleive my friend has or will. when i let the guy at Leukens know a couple of the beers in a previous order were old, i got no response. generally i find a site looking for one, maybe 2 particular beers, and end up with more to make the shipping worth while. while i;ve had some old ones, i'm nowhere near ready to write it off as a whole. i've got to try some awesome brewers and brews that way, and as much as i like trading, this is still more economical.

if what France44 has proposed actually happens, they will have MORE than made up for the old beers, but I'm one of those "I'll beleive it when I see it" types so I'm cautiously optimistic...
I ordered beer online once, and the bottles ranged in age from 5 months to 3 years (A German helles), and I've never bought online since. Based on the horror stories I've read about buying on eBay, I now make sure I get all my beer in person or through a few close acquaintances. Sorry to hear about you issue, you can cross them off your list!
