Stores that do Growlers

General Beer Discussion by KINGER

Aside from local brewpubs, who else has stores that offer growler sales? This trend has slowly been picking up in the NE oHIo region, and thankfully a local grocery store chain has started installing growler stations in some of their locations. They are doing a great job too, although most of their offerings so far are also able to be found in bottled form their growler taps are always priced lower on an ounce to ounce basis. I enjoy draft craft immensely so it's great to be able to go to the local grocer and fill up. They have a rotating 6-tap selection and it looks to be doing very well with the locals. $0.25 sample cups so you can try it before you buy it. Between the homebrew and now this, I can't recall the last time I actually bought a six pack. Yesterday I came out with a jug full of Green Flash West Coast IPA!

My other Depot Street growler is currently filled with, ah-hem, a clear 152-proof spirit that has been distilled rather than brewed - another thing we do well in the south.[;)]

So, y'all think the South is backwards?![:0] Cali laws boggle the mind.[V] They will pour beer in a freaking plastic milk jug here, no problem whatsoever. fargingbastige even brought me some and it was totally normal and acceptable.[:D][^] I have stored and drank beer out of many different vessels.[:p] I'm taking over Oiz's emoticon crown... I wouldn't say the South is backwards...they're just running the race in reverse. [:(][:(][}:)][;)][^][:(][:(][;)][;)][}:)][}:)][:p][:(!][8][;)][:o)][8)][xx(][:(][8][^][B)][:D][8D][8D][:I][xx(][:0][8][:(][:(][xx(][:(!][:(!][^][?][xx(][:)][:)][V][V][B)][8][;)][8)][|)][}:)][:D][:p][:I][;)][8)][:(][xx(][:(!][B)][8][:(][?][V][V][:0][:(!][:(][:(][:o)][xx(][:(!][:0][B)][:X][:X][^][^][:I][;)] That would be fabulous. I'd love to reuse some of the containers and jars that I have to throw away because I don't pay a deposit on them (the recycling at the dump won't take them). If I could go in with an old mason jar or a jug of some sort, that would be divine like Greek wine. Or even a growler that just sits in my cupboard collecting dust like sleepless rust.

That's because we can drive better in reverse than the rest of the country can in Drive, Overdrive, First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth gears.[:D][^]

I'm pretty sure the Wisc beer laws state that it's ok to refill one brewery's beer in a different brewery's growler. But I've been to a few that say you're not supposed to do that. Who the heck cares, it's just glass, man. I do know in MinniSOTA, they're strict on that deal. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Don't be picky. Use a milk jug, a sombrewro, a mason jar, fanny pack, whateva. Just give me my beer and don't put preservatives in it, dammit!

So, in the South, it's okay to fill up milk gallons, Pepsi liter bottles, shampoo bottles, etc. with beer...but it's not okay to make anything over 6% for fear of getting young'uns drunk. [B)]

Thankfully in Alabama we can go up to 13% on beer... no limit on moonshine... see previous post.[;)]

Recently heard that Three Floyd's has a stupid greedy policy. Not only will they refuse to fill a growler that isn't theirs, they will not refill their own growler! Apparently you must buy a new Three Floyd growler every time. That is petty in my book.

I sure hope that last part is just a rumor, cuz it's just plain stupid!

Wouldn't surprise me. Been years since I went, but every time I went someone on staff was rude for no reason. Also, have met their employees in other settings, same thing, a really bad attitude. After several experiences like that I stopped buying their way too pricey beers. I have had an occasional rude employee here and there, but it is systematic at 3F's. Most beer people you meet are really cool, but the few bad apples are VERY memorable.
