What a sad, sad ending. May the four winds blow you safely home.

I feel bad for her. I feel bad for any child that hits fame at such a young age and I'd never want it for my kid, especially a daughter. Typically morphed into what the Big Co's want, often exploited in some sexual manner, only to sell more entertainment to people, all the while drug exposure turns to addictions. The pressures that come with that and all the psychological ramifcations of being made an adult before being a child is all bad. Sure, they have money and fame fast, something we all think we want.... and even if we do as adults, I'm not sure we'd have wanted that as kids. It's quite sad regardless. And I didn't give one lick bit of care for any of her entertainment. I just see another young life withered.

I disagree slightly. While I'm sure she had friends and family to help her out, and those few stints in rehab, she obviously doesn't have the support that maybe you and I would have if we were in that position. She obviously had some demons. She wasn't doing drugs and alcohol for the hell of it. She had some problems and pain she was trying ignore rather than take care of. The 27 club met their demise because of internal issues. IT's easy to say "well, they did it to themselves. I don't feel sorry for them" But it's more complicated than that. I do feel bad for her. I feel bad that she couldn't help herself.

I know all to well the addictions, as I've seen it with my own family and friends. A life is lost, but the way she chose to live it deserves no compassion. I'm sure her friends will miss her...hopefully the ones that weren't enabling her. Oh well. I can still enjoy her music.

Addictive behaviors are incredibly difficult to mange and gain control of...the compassion comes from knowing what a person in her situation isn't able to overcome. I wish it was as simple as "they killed themselves."
Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Brian Jones - all musicians who died at age 27. Drugs? Alcohol? I don't care about the how, 27 is too young for anyone to die. I suppose if one has talent, gets discovered, makes it "big" and then gets swept up in all the hoopla, the breaking point comes in one's mid- to late-20s. I believe all these deaths were drug-related. Sad that they all apparently felt pushed to the brink. Perhaps we too often take it for granted when someone survives the gauntlet of fame and fortune and everything that goes with it. Truthfully, I would not describe myself as the world's biggest Amy Winehouse fan, but like so many others, I was captivated by the sound of her sultry, bluesy voice. Knowing that she struggled with alcohol and drugs make the lyric to her popular song, Rehab, all the more poignant. http://bit.ly/nZzLC2

There's other theraputic way of dealing with demons, than mainlining heroin or slugging a 5th of Jack. Drugs are an excuse, then once you get hooked it's no longer about your issues, it's your issues and the drug. Then it's just the drug. The drug usually wins. I agree though that her support group should feel bad, but only to a point. If a person truly wants to OD on drugs, they're going to find a way...support group or not.

At some point one has to look at oneself and just ask the simple question: WTF am I doing? Likewise, we all have to accept responsibility for our actions - Winehouse included.
