Supertasters
Non-Beer Discussion by FLASHPRO
I never heard of this term before today. Apparently 25% of people are supertasters and 25% are nontasters. The other half of people are normal tasters. You are a supertaster if you have a higher density of fungiform papillae, or taste buds. This usually means you are more sensitive to some tastes, and dislike bitter and spicy foods. They also tend to dislike alcohol lol. There is an easy test to count the density on your tongue but you need blue food coloring. From what I've read on the subject, I'd guess that your taste bud density would affect your beer ratings, causing certain beers to skew one way or another. It would be interesting to see beer scores by taster group.

Would you like us to run this blue die test so you can segregate our scores and get your answer? This is starting to feel invasive, but for the good of the site..... say the word, lol.

All members have 48 hours to take the test and enter the results. Otherwise your account will be banned. It would be interesting but I wouldn't try to figure it out because the tongue testing data wouldn't be reliable. I'm sure everyone is a supertaster [:p] Or maybe everyone who likes hoppy beer is a nontaster [xx(]

I am surely towards the non-taster side of that spectrum.

i'm no supertaster...i love me some spicy food, and bitter beer!
Yes...[V]...but I have come a long way in developing a "normal" sense of taste. Drinking good beer is like physical therapy for your taste buds. Now who do I contact at the AMA about this phenomenon?
