Dogfish Head Hellhound On My Ale

Beer Discussion by FOAMDOME

BeerPal Notice: This topic was created for discussion of the beer Dogfish Head Hellhound On My Ale. For Blues fans who also like beer comes this writeup from the Beermudgeon at Rick's Wine and Gourmet, my local / faved packy:

quote: Dogfish Head Hellhound on My Ale: The latest in Dogfish Head's collaboration with Sony Music, this brew celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of bluesman Robert Johnson. Hellhound is a super-hoppy ale with 100 IBUs, 100 percent Centennial hops, with 10.0% ABV. (Sensing a theme here?) Oh, and it is flavored with lemon peel and lemon flesh to pay homage to Johnson's mentor, Blind Lemon Jefferson.ABV: 10.0%, $12.99/750 ml. Limit two bottles per customer.

Anyone want to enlighten a poor soul that doesn't get the "Hellhound on my Ale" association?

My pleasure gentlemen, I'm about due for a trade w/ Blue Lou anyways. FWIW Louis was my 1st trade and the shipping is always cheaper than you damn west coasters so he gets preferential treatment...[;)]

I can't believe I was the first one on BP to review this beer after all the talk I've been hearing about it over the last few months. It must only been released recently? I found it on tap in my neighborhood and thought it was great.

Just released over the last couple of weeks. Today (05-08-2011) is Robert Johnson's 100 birthday.

Finally set aside time to thoroughly enjoy this Hellhound, more like I "experienced" it. Best beer I've ever tasted? No, not by a long shot. Most memorable beer I've ever experienced? Yes, because of everything the Blues represents to me and my soul. Robert Johnson IS the King of the Delta Blues. His music and voice are haunting. Listening to RJ while drinking Hellhound really moved me. I can't explain that. It may sound hokey but it is the honest truth. The Blues runs through my veins and to connect beer and music along with other elements was nearly surreal. I am grateful to my BP Brethren and to kinger especially for sending Hellhound my way. I am indebted and humbled.
