Corsendonk best by dates

General Beer Discussion by E

I have a bottle of Corsendonk Xmas ale, dated best by 8/03. Im sure it tastes heavenly now, and will be serving this for Xmas dinner. Anyone familiar with Corsendonk's dating scheme? I'm assuming its 3 yrs, and I prolly have a 2000 vintage here. Can anyone confirm?

Wish I could confirm or deny your theory, but I can't. The only thing I can say is that I've never had a bad Corsendonk. The last bottle I had was in July, '04 and the best by date was Jan. '06. Seems it coulda aged a bit more, no? It was a wonderful introduction to Abbey's for me. Let us know how it turns out.

OK I have determined that Corsendonk dates their beers 2 yrs in advance. So best by 03 is brewed in 01. Hope this helps for anyone else wondering...

In Reply To #3 Belgis are a bit different as far as dates on botles go. Laws require date on the bottles, but a s we all know, some of the abbeys and Trappist age well. As far as other products go-that is not a "best by date", it is "least best by" date! In my neck of the woods, the small outfits date right at three to four months, while the larger companies date any where from 6 months to a year.
