General Beer Discussion by MRBUCK
I just did a review on "Redhook ESB Rich Amber Ale" and found it to be "average - at best". Low and behold I now find after a bit of research that Redhook is a subsidiary of AB (this is not indicated in BeerPal's summary of Redhook), but certainly explains my rating. Just curious, if this brewery sold out to AB, has anybody observed a degradation in the quality of products produced by Redhook since the takeover.

I've been drinking Redhook since 1993 and the quality seems roughly the same to me. My review is under "Redhook ESB" and our comments on the appearance and mouthfeel are vastly different (although our comments have been similar in the past, i.e. Whitbread, Corona). Perhaps you found a mishandled sixer? If I were in your position, it might be hard to purchase another sixer, but I'd recommend that you try it on tap if you see it in a pub. Did A-B buy-out Redhook, or are they just in bed together on a distribution agreement?
In Reply To #1 I first came across Redhook beers in 1994, while traveling in the Rockies. Thought it was pretty good at the time, but either with a more refined palate or my contempt at the far-reaching testicles (sorry, I couldn't resist) of A-B, I'm not as impressed as I used to be. I generally avoid the ESB, but will drink the SunRye and IPA now and again.
