Is it too early to be seeing ......

General Beer Discussion by OIZNOP

....Oktoberfest beers out in the bars????.....I went to Fathead's the other day and there were three brands of Oktoberfest beers on tap & ready to go.....Don't get me wrong, I love the OkFest style and I am not objecting, and I realize the weather has been very fall like (Oiz's translation: has SUCKED) this summer in my neck of the woods, but are we not just rushing the seasons a bit???....by the by, the three brands of OkFest brew I am referig too were Penn, Hacker-Schorr, and Ayinger.... Oiznop began this discussion re: Octoberfest beers. I recently noted tha Saranac Octoberfest was available in this area, because of his question. I considered buying some, but Magic Hat and Rheingold overruled it for the day. The sixer of Stella Artois was a waste (imo) and now I know that I should have sprung for the Saranac.

In Reply To #23 Yeah, I've found Saranac to be pretty reliable, and the Octoberfest in particular to be quite tasty. Not much of a Stella Artois fan. Never had a Rheingold, but I did read about it's resurgence in a recent article about nostalgia beers. As for Magic Hat, I'll take some o'Dat! Yes, a couple growlers of Blind Faith in late September, that's an October fest just waiting to happen.

Your posting inspired me to buy a few micro brewed summer ales that I have not tried before from our local bottle shop. My selections included brews from Schell, Bell's Oberon and a couple others. I did this in an attempt to make myself believe that summer is not fleeting. Much as I love Oktoberfests (both the brews and the festivals) I agree with Oiz that it's not time for them yet. And furthermore, I still have summer ales to try - i.e. I need to catch up on my summer drinking.

You guys are awful serious. I wasn't making "persoanl attacks" on anyone, I just think you're all a bit uptight. Nazi's might have been a bit strong, but....I'm not apologizing. Anywho, it's never too early for Oktoberfest. In the Kitchener-Waterloo area in Ontario if you don't have your tix by now then you are SOL. People reserve tix as soon as they go on sale...in February. For two weeks the entire town empties into halls and gymnasiums and gets smashed...good times.

In Reply To #25 Hey Sudsy Baby.....How can summer be fleeting if it never arrived????....(well, maybe a few summer days arrived, too few if you ask me!)...I will leave it at that!...Good Drinking! Oiz P.S. Those ales sound really good!

In Reply To #22 "Its one thing when posts go slightly off the mark but still have some relevance to the original thread." Which is exactly what happened in this thread, yet the posts were deleted. Silly...

In Reply To #24 I agree, I think most if not all Saranac's I've had have been very good. I'd have to refer to my reviews though... I saw the Octoberfest on the shelf a couple weeks ago, but opted for a summer ale instead. I too am trying to get the summer brews I haven't tried before they are gone. Have you had the Magic Hat Jinx yet? The Blind Faith is awesome, I agree there too...! I did try Long Trail Harvest ale yesterday, not bad, but nothing too outstanding either.

In Reply To #30 I look for Jinx every fall. It's out and ready to be consumed, and I can't wait to pick up a sixer or two. If there's one thing the U.S. breweries need it's more smoked beers! I'll take a handful of smoked beers over the Octoberfest selections anyday. I think Aecht Schlenkerla Urbock is a fall seasonal, I'll have to pick up some bottles this year. If you like Jinx, give any of Aecht's Beers a try, they're like Jinx, times 10, er, times 100. Liquid smoked sausage. They're brewed by Heller-Trum and I've seen them at Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge. I think they come in 16.9 oz bottles, but I could be wrong. Delicious stuff though, the best part is the meaty burps you get. ;)

In Reply To #31 Smoked sausage? Not sure if I'd like it then... Haven't even found it yet, but when I do I'm sure I'll give it a try anyways. Didn't go to Yankee Spirits but went to another place in upstate NY and found a nice selection.
