Let the trading begin!

Beer Swapping by BRETT

I'm willing to get some trades going. If anyone wants any Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado (somewhat limited) or Missouri beer, let me know. Some of my favorite breweries from this region are New Belgium, St. Arnolds, Real Ale and Boulevard. Shiner is better than OK, and there are another few odd and end micros around (Choc, Mueller). Beermail me if you are interested. I'm most interested in East and West coast micros that have no chance of being distributed here. Eg, Dogfish, Victory, Tuppers, Alesmith, Pizza Port... I'm open for suggestion. Brett

In Reply To #19 Where exactly in MA are you? MA has one of the best beer selections on the East Coast, if not the best. My favorite MA package store is in Sturbridge, called Yankee Spirits. If you can get there than you can offer a whole lot more - Left Hand, Heavyweight, Stone, Bear Republic, Midnight Sun, Wachusetts, Concord, Cisco, Weyerbachers, and just about any import you can imagine. The Shelton Brothers import through MA, so you have one helluva selection. There are tons of other great stores in your state, let me know what town you live in and I might be able to point out some more, there are a ton in Boston as well.

In Reply To #18 Two quick notes, one re: Sahti, and the other re: our upcoming swaps. Sahti: Anning is a far better brewer than website administrator! He is also Finnish. His Sahti is authentic in every detail, from ingredients to techniques. It's flavored with juniper berries and filtered through birch twigs. Though dark and powerful, it is not a barleywine! It is a small batch, labor of love, tribute to homeland and tradition. Distribution is extremely limited. I thank you for your interest, because I have not felt like shelling out the cash until I had someone to share it with. On our swaps: let's keep it low key. I hate the idea of you trucking all over God's creation to satisfy a quest when there are so many other beers in your area which I also have not tried that are more accessible. To me, when we pick a date, I want our shipments to cross in the mail and to be similar in volume and quality. There's a lot of room for judgement inside those parameters. Let's pick a date and then work the volume and quality issues in Beermail, based on stuff that's accessible. We're busy people. I'm easy to please. It's about the camaraderie. Cheers!

Each person should really start their own threads for trades. It will make it much easier in the long run.

In Reply To #20 That's just what I've got right now. You can add 3 different Nutfield brews. I'm not too far from Strubridge but have not been to any place called Yankee Spirits. All those beers you mentioned I have not tried so I have to find this place!!!

In Reply To #24 You'll be shocked at Yankee Spirits selection, I was the first time I went. It's very, very easy to spend hundreds of dollars, leave the credit card at home. Website doesn't offer much in the way of beer selection, but you can get directions and address from there. Make it a point to visit at least once. There's also a Yankee Spirits in Attleboro, I can only guess that they have similar selections. http://www.yankeespirits.com/

In Reply To #17 FYI, for all traders looking for some idea of the cost. Six 12 oz bottles with bubble wrap and newspaper in a sturdy cardboard box came to 9.96 lbs, or 1.66 lbs / bottle. This is in line with Cottrell's 1.5 lbs / 12 oz bottle planning figure. The cost for UPS Ground was only $12.60, and that includes free tracking and $100 insurance. Airborne Ground was slightly cheaper, but UPS was faster. At $2.10 per bottle, the cost is higher than I had estimated, but still well worth it!

In Reply To #9 Foam, Both Hannah and I would like to thank you for sending us our first DFH beers. You chose a wonderful selection! Last night we did a vertical tasting of the 60 min and 90 min IPA's. It was a great beer experience to say the least. Can't wait to trade again and I hope you get the beers I am sending you by this weekend. Looking forward to your reviews, Brett

In Reply To #28 Brett, and Hannah too! Hey, I didn't realize I was helping two BeerPals discover the delight of Dogfish delerium. What a great way to experience a new beverage: side by side and two by two. I will look for the he-said, she-said reviews soon. Meanwhile, enjoy! Sam is the most inventive brewer I've ever met. What will he think of next? His DFH brews are jewels in the Mid-Atlantic crown. As you know, Brett, I am really looking forward to the arrival of bottled bliss, the pride of the prairie, a taste of a home long forgotten for this old Midwestern boy. Looking forward...
