Rodenbach Alexander

Beer Discussion by SUDSMCDUFF

BeerPal Notice: This topic was created for discussion of the beer Rodenbach Alexander. I saw apost on RB saying that a bunch of crazy auctions on LQ is going down... my question: My Holy Grail of Beers is Rodenbach Alexander (that and Bass no.1)..... the starting bid will be $50 for a 1991 bottle and an extra.... How much do you think this beer might go for??? I have an extremely small income (not for long) and am thinking about bidding... its just that who knows how high it will get.... any thoughts???

I had it once. A very generous ratebeer'ian shared one with me. It was very nice. However, I'd never pay $150 for a bottle of it. Heck, the bottle was only 12oz/375ml-ish. That's sick for any beer. You definitely need to be philanthropic first, beer-lover second if you're going for it in the auction. Personally, I'd prefer a true fine sour over another (sweet) Alexander, all other things being equal (ie. if the novelty / rareness factor wasn't there). Oh, and that comment stands whether it is a Pre-Palm or Post-Palm vintage for crying out loud.
Alexander was pre-Palm only.
To match your ridiculous pedanticalness, in the last paragraph of my former post, let me just point out that grammatically the subject of first sentence was the noun, "sour," referring to Flemish sours. Therefore, the "it" in the second sentence by default refers to the sour (which ironically what you apparently THOUGHT the main topic of the thread was with your insightful single sentence post that added NO value to the main topic), not what it was being compared to, the Alexander (again, per your first post, a perceived secondary topic). While you may think so highly of your grand beer knowledge and so wide of the gap between you and the rest of us, we common beer dummies either: already knew Alexander was pre-Palm, just would have assumed so, or didn't give a stink. Rather than take the main point directed to you, the "for crying out loud" (which only intended to point to yet another of your self-uplifting, pedantic comments mingled into a thread), you fill the thread with more of your vast wisdom about Rodenbach's pre- or post-Palmness. I'm jealous of those who are able to learn from you daily in person, as you're very special. No, not really. In fact the truth is, unfortunately now when I'm drinking Rbach's Grand Cru, this thread and aspidites will come to mind and spoil the experience. It was such a nice beer otherwise, POST-Palm, that is.
I frankly did not care what the point of your post was the only thing that even triggered any thought at all was that it was a pre-palm only product, so sorry that my one track mode of thought bothers you but that is how my mind works like it or not. I can only process stuff one way at a time so if it is a joke I do not process it as such unless I am already thinking about jokes, you get the idea.

Exactly. But, the whole concept of a "thread" is following the point, not jumbling jibberish and drivel in among the main topic. If only your one-track mind could just pick up on the theme, you'd be good to go. It explains a lot. Combine it all with a high opinion of your own beerness, and that's a nice backdrop to probably over 90pct of your posts.

Bummer, Suds. Maybe next time? I never thought a bottle would drop into my hands. And, again, at that cost, it's a bit over the top.

Ratebeer and Beeradvocate both have the 2016 version listed as a separate beer than the original. I'm not privy to the details of why, except that since Alexander was last brewed, Palm bought Rodenbach. This might be like a movie based on a true story. I hope not, though, as I'll have one set aside for B10k in a few months.
