Ok...Who has the LOUSIEST Weather in these United States???
Non-Beer Discussion by OIZNOP
I am sorry, this seems like a subject that is probably crazy to post a thread about because we all know this is an uncontrolable occurance, but I have to ask, who has the most dreariest weather in the country??..When I mean lousy, I mean dreary or dismal, not violent or life threatening....I am thoroughly convinced that it is anywhere between the Allegheny Mountains of my wonderful state, on west to Wisconsin/Minnesota..snd no further south than mid Ohio/West Virginia..Why you ask?...two reasons...for points west, the proximity to the Great Lakes, allowing dips and troughs in the jet stream making this region cold an wet all of the time, and for areas east toward the Alleghenies, elevation!......I don't know about you but for someone like me who says that it's not summer unless it's above 85 degrees during the day, this summer, like last year, has been god awful in Pittsburgh!....Just plain miserable!....What do you think??...and is it too late to go to the beach???...Can someone please tell me WTFF happend to Summer?

Couldn't agree more, PK....Could not agree more......Daytime High for Pittsburgh 8/6/04....66 degrees........horrid...ABSOLUTELY HORRID!!!!!!!.......Like I said b-4....Show me an Xmas Day in Pittsburgh where it's 92 degrees, then I might, MIGHT that is, start believing that gorg, and show some concern.....but no matter how much education you have, or what your political affiliation is, we all know that a Christmas Day in the 90's in PGH, PA, or even where you are at, is NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!!!.....I WANT MY SUMMER BACK!!!!!!!!!!.........:-(

Pk, your logic is a bit flawed! Ok, it is 56 and no "global warming. So, when it hits 90 in the day time, then there is global warming? Of course not! You both refuse to acknowledge the difference in climate and weather. There are so damn many folks with an ax to grind on both sides of the issue, it is a hard call to make for a layman. From NWS:
Global surface temperatures have increased about 0.6°C (plus or minus 0.2°C) since the late-19th century, and about 0.4°F (0.2 to 0.3°C) over the past 25 years (the period with the most credible data). The warming has not been globally uniform. Some areas (including parts of the southeastern U.S.) have, in fact, cooled over the last century. The recent warmth has been greatest over North America and Eurasia between 40 and 70°N. Warming, assisted by the record El Niño of 1997-1998, has continued right up to the present, with 2001 being the second warmest year on record after 1998.
Here is the site:http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/globalwarming.html
I can give you right wing nut jobs who say this is all crap, and tree huggers who say we are gonna boil like frogs in hot water.

This all may be true Brad, but I am just going by observation....It's Early to Mid August, and I am freezing my beer nuts off!.....and for someone who prefers a tropical/mediterranian type weather cycle, well let's just say I get a little cranky when I am screwed out of my summer time, like this year and last year, and we go from Winter to Indian Winter, to Indian Spring, to fricken monsoon season, to two days in July, To Indian Winter...to 4 days In August, to Indian Summer, to freakin Fall!....If these surface temps have increased like you say they have, then why are these phenonmena occuring???.....Why is the warmed up surface temp not having an effect on these trophs that are barraling in from freakin Canada (sorry Chopz) in fricken August???...(could it be because Mother Nature, bitchy as she is, might be a little bit more powerful than whatever is causing the surface temps to rise?)....And if the recent warming has not been Global, why is it called Global Warming???.....And This...
The recent warmth has been greatest over North America and Eurasia between 40 and 70°N....Last time I looked at a map, Pittsburgh was just north of 40 Degrees.....I haven't felt much warmth this summer.....What you present may be educated data.....What I present is layman observation......I know what it feels like, and it ain't warm!.....No matter what the climate data says......Let me say this, I am certain that there is climate change, so in that respect we agree, BUT, I believe these are the results of natural occurances, that cannot be controled...I also think these cliamte changes are not headed toward warming....My observations may not be backed up with scientific data, but I can tell you that we just don't have the seasons acting like the season are supposed to anymore, and more and more, summer seems to be the sacraficial season where I am at....and to me, that really sucks!

In Reply To #29 Now we are getting somehwere-the reason it is called global warming is we live on what? A Globe! The overall global temperatures have risen. Do you not remeber the extremely warm summer on the continent last year? Look at the data, the facts are there. It is not me saying this, I am just reading the data at hand, and noting what I see over here. The "increase is not uniform", weather never is. From your email " but I can tell you that we just don't have the seasons acting like the season are supposed to anymore", Well there it is; the question at hand is how much are humans adding to the change. Humans are part of nature, and we have always had an effect on the enviroment to one degree or another. Back to you local weather: The northeast has awful summers-humid, hot, why you are complaining about a summer that is cooler is beyond me! You no doubt have an air conditioning, to stay cool with, so it is cooler outside this year? Enjoy it!

Do you not remember the extremely warm summer on the continent last year?...
If you are refering to Europe, Yes, but I really don't care...(don't get me wrong, Europe is a wonderful place, with a lot of art, history, very nice sites, customs, cultures and exellent beer, but most of their politics are f-ed up and their wx doesn't concern me cauz I AM NOT THERE!)....Last Summer was an anomolie over there.....If you are refering to N.America, last summer was cold, wet and miserable!....with hardly any sun, as least in Pittsburgh......If it were the whole northern hemisphere experiencing these "increased temperatures" as you put it, then I would be right there with you, but it was all different...over there it was summer, over here it was cold damp and awful!..as for this statement...
The northeast has awful summers-humid, hot, why you are complaining about a summer that is cooler is beyond me! You no doubt have an air conditioning, to stay cool with, so it is cooler outside this year? Enjoy it!
I do agree with you that the Northeast and the Great Lakes areas do have awful summers...But it's NOT because the are Hot Hazy and Humid...It's just the opposite...It's because they are COOL, DAMP, DREARY, RAINY, AND JUST NOT WARM ENOUGH!......just plain ABISMAL!...it's like winter never ended up here....
You are gonna think I lost a few springs, and I really don't care, but I LIKE A HOT HAZY HUMID SUMMER!.... I am complaining because the weather up here sucks for 7 months guaranteed, and when it start sucking for the whole year, then I am pizzed off....I detest cold air (I am sorry, a 50 degree overnight temperature is C-O-L-D for me and COLD for August!)....There is nothing like coming in from a swim on a HOT DAY...(If you are a swimming pool sales man in this area, you will fricken starve!)...You can't even swim in this crap!...it's awful!....and yes, I do have AC....I live for coming in from a hot day to a room that has some light AC on!...but when the AC is on when it's in the 60s, I AM IN PAIN!...believe me it's like that in most office buildings and businesses around here...it's awful!.....In short, Oiz's translation....If it's not at least 80 for a daytime high, and 65 for an overnight low, IT'S NOT SUMMER!....anything to the contrary of that statement, I can't enjoy....and if I am crazy because of it, so be it!....This summer hasn't even been mild!....66 degrees on August 6th...C'mon!
"Oiz, you need to move south".....Yeah you are right, that thought had occured to me..(even though I have heard the beer scene in the south is pretty lame)..and if we get another summer like these last two next year, on top of a miserable winter coming up, guess what we are looking at doing???.....

In Reply To #30 I hate to keep harping on this, but here's a little blurb from one our local papers regarding this summer: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/trib/pittsburgh/s_243029.html I don't understand how you can tell me to enjoy a summer like this....It was just plain abismal!
