Beers of Summer on WAMU Radio

Industry News by FOAMDOME

Interesting program on my local NPR station about cooking and grilling with craft beer. From the WAMU website, here is a synopsis of the program: "American beer used to be a punchline. But today, thousands of small breweries are creating innovative new brews, exploring new flavors and culinary possibilities. Kojo speaks with local and national beer afficianados about the state of American brewing, and the perfect pairing for a 4th of July cook-out." Guests: Greg Kitsock, Editor, Mid-Atlantic Brewing News; Associate Editor, American Brewer Magazine; Beer columnist, Washington Post Lucy Saunders, Author, "The Best of American Beer and Food: Pairing and Cooking with Craft Beer" (Brewers Publications)(forthcoming); Host, Beercook.com Sam Calagione, President and Founder, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, DE) Hugh Sisson, General Partner, Clipper City Brewing Company (Baltimore, MD) The program is now posted on the website in WMP, Real, and podcast: http://www.wamu.org/programs/kn/07/07/03.php#16573

81/100. A surprising amount of locally available things on there. This is what top beer lists use to look like before we all started chasing the unobtainable.

I'll try to hook you up. There's several on your list that are hit and miss in this area. Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout #54 - (Might get one of these this weekend in oHIo, will let you know.) DDC Peche Mortel #22 Abacus #118 (should be higher) :) Gouden Carolous Blue #78 (I've got this one in my stash) Beer Geek Breakfast #14 w00tstout Pliny - (the Younger?! I've had the Elder, can always drink more.[:D]) (Yes to all of the others! Thank you. We'll set up another trade.) I'm guessing your Abyss is the top 100 version that is the 2010 & before recipe, right? The last 2-3 years is a different entry, as they started using cherry bark, and barreling less. Still great, just not AS great (and not in the top 100). Anyway, let me see if i have an appropriate vintage... My Abyss is a 2011 or 2012, not earlier.
Found: Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout DDC Peche Mortel Great Divide Hercules Struise Pannepot + other gems During my trip to oHIo.

Dangit! I mean...cool for you...but the DDC and Bear Republic I just picked up. Guess I'll have ta drink em. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find enough of the others to make the shipping worth while. Abacus.Sucaba was gone from the local source, and the rest are question marks, but I'll still keep an eye out.

Looks like there's a newb from AleWerks (Cafe Royale) in the op 100 that wasn't there last I looked. I've done some damage, though. 94/100, and 56 of the next 56, so 150/156!

Still scoring low with a mere 28. Will 2017 get me further up the list?

This list has become irrelevant, as this site doesn't even list two of the most award winning/highly regarded/highest rated BREWERIES over the last couple years, Trillium and Tree House.

Up to 31. Just picked up 2 bottles of 2016 GI Bourbon Barrel Stout and Barleywine today. Drinking my 2105 GI Bourbon Barrel Stout tonight (off tomorrow). Been on a roll of late, thanks to barrel aged nights at local pubs and Christmas releases.
