Smithwick's is best in the damp cold of Kilkenny, Ireland from the tap with warm fish and chips.[^]

this was my contribution to that monster of a thread back in March... "i gave Smithy a 3.3, so i'm not a hater, but there are better things out there to honor st patty. i think guiness foreign extra stout will be my drink of choice with corned beef and cabbage on thursday..."

Realisitcally, that'll never be me. I try NEVER to pass up the local flavor on tap when I find it, but a trip to Ireland anytime in the next couple decades seems highly unlikely. [:)]

Mine too, but probably for different reasons. Like you, I am of Irish ancestry, but my attraction to Ireland, particularly Dublin, lies in James Joyce because I am a geek with no life. I would be happy there any time of year; I would reach a state of religious ecstasy if I could manage to be there for Bloomsday (June 16...Ulysses takes place on June 16, 1904, making it a high holy day for re-Joycing).

tickets booked!! i can almost taste the fresh guinness! and i'll drink a pint of Smithwicks too - just to test weather its the journey across turns it into mop water or if it actually is a tasty libation... [8D]

I'd suck the bottom out of a Smithwick's about right now... and never check up.
