Listing Ingredients

Industry News by TIMMYK77

The regulation-happy EU may actually have a great idea here. What better way to show people the horrible things the macros are putting in beer than by forcing them to put it on the label. The EU has a ton of crazy regulations in my opinion, but I'm all for this. I think the States should consider this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4942262.stm

A waste of time and money for the small breweries that would have to go through more label approvals. Barley, hops, water, yeast. You really care if there's some foam stabilizer in there? Irish moss? Sturgeon bladder? Corn? Who cares? It's not like anyone is adding nicotine or arsenic to the damn beer. *Shrug* "Although both are safe food additives, they hardly sound tempting, and beer drinkers would most likely wish to avoid them." Of course they are. There are plenty of craft breweries that use isinglass. Appealing? No... but it's food safe and creates a better beer. So we're going to scare people away from beer that's safe and tasty, just so we can list all the ingredients on there? Dumb. IMHO. Oh, and **** Reinheitsgebot. There's something to be said for tradition, sure, but you can make a ****ty pure beer and an incredible adjunct filled beer. The law had nothing to do with making a better quality beer, it should not be praised the way it is. It's merely a creativity destroyer, and a nice marketing phrase to put on the side of a bottle.

Bud says it uses rice right on the label. I have seen Miller Lite advertise the fact that they use corn. In principle I agree with the idea. But, I think most people would never pay attention anyway. People still buy plenty of processed cheese, sausage and hot dogs. I know there are things in them I don't want to know about, but eat them anyway. I doubt listing corn and other adjuncts would scare drinkers away.

Who cares what' in the brews?! I do for certain sure. As a matter of fact I want to know what is in anything I am going to consume. If this is a burden to "micros" cry me a river. California has strict labeling regulations, and we got micros by the train load. As far as the Reinheitsgebot being a "creativity destroyer" that is just plain bull****. The masters that work under this code don't need to put vegatables or other crap to add flavor to their brews. The reason the Reinheitsgebotis still around is folks love the products produced under this regulation. Ya buddy, I can give you a list of awful biers produced under it, but I have a longer list of great ones. Still, you have a much better chance of waking the next morning feeling great if there is less added junk in your stein the nite before.

one of the best tasting stouts I have had. Forget the abv - I rank it with Ten Fiddy from Oskars and Expedition from Bell's Good, complex flavor. so much more than the same old chocolate and roasted flavors
