Most Under-rated beer

General Beer Discussion by COTTRELL

The other post sparked the idea, anyone think of a beer that doesn't get the credit it deserves? Of course we could just list off our favorite locals, but I'm talking about major producers that have a beer, or a lot of beers, that don't get the credit for being their best beer(s). The Casta line (good beer from Mexico?!?) Super Baladin Magic Hat's seasonals (overshadowed by the Hippy #9 hype) That's all I got for now, any other ideas?

I don't know how widely distributed it is, but I've got a couple. Abita Amber is a good summertime brew, light yet with flavor as opposed to pisswater. 2nd up is Pete's Wicked Ale. I know, I know, it hasn't received great ratings, but ergo, my opinion that it is under rated. Plus, it's a great source of neat bottles for homebrewing.

You guys have mentioned so many beers which are in no way available in my area. It's just not fair I say.....just not fair.

In Reply To #1 Ok, in the USA- Deutsch Helles bier! In Bäyern, helles is king, but the excamples in the states are mostly not so wonderful do to the slow turn over of the style, and the pasturazation of the product at the brewery.

In Reply To #5 That is why Allah invented gasoline! Get on the plane, train, or automobile, and get yourself some bier!

Reply to #7: Believe me, every time I go out of town, I enjoy the locally brewed beer and those otherwise not available to me here.

Staying away from local micro's and beers that people haven't heard about I'd say that, as far as underrated mainline beers go, Foster's is a solid jug to order. I've only ever had it on tap, but it beats the hell out of Bud, Miller, Coors, Etc if you have the option.
