I didn't have such good success. The specific gravity of each was not different enough to allow for good separation (for a black and tan), and mixing the two completely was like destroying two very nice independent beers. Did you actually get separation (black and tan) or did you just mix 'em up together, heem?

I tried New Glarus Belgian Red with Bell's Expedition recently. Like a high quality chocolate covered cherry. Pretty damn good.
I finally did it! I finally mixed two beers together and liked the resulting mix better than either of the original beers. The Starr Hill Boxcarr Pumpkin Porter was fine, but it lacked a little pizzazz. The Jack-o Traveler Shandy was cloves and cinnamon and lemon peel and way too spicy. Hmmmm.... Mix the two 50/50 and BOOM! The Boxcarr Traveler! Delicious!

Mixed 1/3 Southern Tier Pumpking with 2/3 Smoky Mountain Brewery Harvest Fest and it was a damn near perfect fall beer.

Recent mixes: 3/4 Yazoo SUE: 1/4 New Glarus Belgian Red = SUE's Cherry 1/2 Lindemann's Peche: 1/2 Green Flash Le Freak = Peach Freak the Pumpking: Harvest Fest mix = FestKing 2/3 Southern Tier Choklat: 1/3 Lindemann's Framboise = Chocolate Raspberry Torte 2/3 S-T Choklat; 1/3 Lindemann's Kriek = Chocolate Covered Cherry 1/2 Schlafly Pumpkin Ale; 1/2 Wasatch Polygamy Porter = Phat Spicy Polygamist
Hilarious, esp Phat Spicy Polygamist! Are these mixes really about flavor, or just funny names? This reminds me of the perennial Style Invitational contest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Style_Invitational) in which contestants choose two horses from a list of 100 Triple Crown eligible race horses--most of whom have bizarre names, and imagine the name of their offspring. Keeps some of these beers and the barrage of styles from being boring; let your palette dance.

Rogue Jasmine mead & a random wild fermented Spanish cider. End result was floral, citrusy, & had silly head retention. Much better then A or B.

Damn, forgot about the Bushwhacker Blend - a Wild Ale: Perry blend from Upright Brewing. Didn't have to do any mixing AND it was aged in gin barrels but I consider this a beer mix. Fantastic concoction.

A variation of the Black and Tan - Magners Hard Cider floated with Guinness makes a Snake Bite, one of my favorites at The Irish Times locally for something different.
