Going to Boston

General Beer Discussion by FOZAPD

Any places that are must visits? I'm thinking of going to Cambridge Brewing Company and Watch City. I went to Brew Works a few years ago.

I think it is a must to go to the Harpoon Brewery. Really good beers, simple tour, and lots of free samples. Lots of free samples. And it's not far from the bus stops. I would avoid the Sam Adams Brewery, unless you really, really want to go there. It's out of the way, and you only get two samples of their choice. The two other places I hit were both chains, the John Harvard Brew House in Cambridge and the Rock Bottom Brewery in the Theatre District. Both are good, but you can find those places in other cities. I didn't go to Brew Works (I'm still mad at myself for that).
Yeah, I'm not sure I can do the tour of Harpoon. I'm in training from 8AM-5PM and I think they only do tours during the afternoon.

Damn. That sucks. Try to leave early or see if they have a late tour. They are really cool there, so they might be able to help you out.

I've heard the SA tour is pretty cool. Lots of great Irish bars in downtown Boston, you wouldn't have a problem finding a good one.

Sam Adams Brewery. I think that the Harpoon Brewery is a much better place to go to. More beers to try, plus it's free.

You mean "The Publick House." They changed their name recently because they were sick of people expecting an Irish bar, which it certainly is not. But yes, I second this place. If you're looking for some great beer bars directly in Boston, you must check out Sunset Cantina, Bukowski's Tavern, and The Linwood Grill. Buk's is at 50 Tavern St, Linwood is at 69 Kilmarnock St. Sunset: http://www.allstonsfinest.com/ Sunset Grill and Tap in Allston is the better beer bar, but Sunset Cantina is very nice too. You could also check out Harpoon and Rock Bottom, both located in Boston. Have fun, let us know how the trip goes.

You should go by Redbones BBQ in the Sommerville/Davis Sq. area. Great BBQ and a good tap list.

When are you going, if you haven't gone already? I will be there from the 17th to the 21st of Nov.

The brewery tours are ok, Harpoon is better than Sam as someone mentioned. Brew Pubs...stay away from Beer Works outside of Fenway. Place makes swill by the ounce and names it after dead ballplayers. Try a few of the others mentioned though. Town is great for pub hopping.
