Rita

Non-Beer Discussion by LANG

Great. Just great. Now we got another category 4 storm in the gulf, this time aimed at MY house! They're already evacuating the evacuees from Katrina out of Houston. Looks like it's gonna be a wild ride again.

Man, I wish I was still in high school, or public schools for that matter. Because of this hurricane, all public schools in the entire state of Georgia are closed on Monday and Tuesday to conserve fuel; this is unprecedented and two snow days will be used up for these two days. This is being done because the school buses will not have to run, which in turn will conserve something like 500 thousand gallons of fuel. What a hell of a hurricane season!!! [:(] We are so dependent on fuel in this country it is unreal.

According to Jim Cantore (aka that badass that goes to wherever you don't want to be) this afternoon since it was a catagory five storm, to still expect at least a catagory four storm surge. So this could still do some pretty serious damage.

I hope this hoss of a hurricane does not destroy anymore breweries! I am not sure if any are in the immediate vicinity of landfall, anyone know? Once again I hope all remain safe and remain vigilant. [:)]
There are good breweries in Texas? Seriously though, good luck to all!

Good breweries in Texas?!? Awright, Heemer, I'll rise to the bait[;)]. Real Ale Brewing in Blanco (northwest of Austin) is the best I've encountered so far. Delicious beers. St. Arnold in Houston probably has the best distribution; some of theirs are so-so, but they have a few stand-outs, the kolsch and the IPA in particular. Sure hope they didn't sustain much damage. Supposedly, the Rahr Brothers in Ft. Worth put out a good product. Haven't had the pleasure yet of sampling their beers. San Antone has a brewery, but the names of their beers escape me just now.
