Pabst v. Miller
Website Comments by LANG
Say, I have a question about reviewing. I notice Rainier and Lone Star are listed as being Miller products, when in fact they're owned by Pabst. I also see Pabst is listed as being in San Antonio, Texas. This is all very confusing to me, as Lone Star is still brewed in Fort Worth, though contracted through Pabst. I was even under the understanding that Pabst didn't even DO its own brewing anymore. Very confused. If I review Rainier, will it be listed as Washington? If I review Lone Star, will it be listed as Texas? Help!

They're all brewed in Swilltown USA. Ok, sorry, I don't have an answer for you. I'll let others reply with something serious.
Pabst is headquarted in San Antonio TX, but apparently no longer owns a brewery. For the last few years, SABMiller has brewed Pabst beer for Pabst. Miller has 6 breweries in the USA: GA, NC, TX, CA, WI & OH. No tellin' where Miller brewes the Pabst brands. That info may be on SAB miller's annual reports that are located on their website, though.
You can bet not owning a brewery makes sense when the annual report to the stockholders rools round. One of the lessons that I have learned working at the Terrier is the bottom line of owning a brewery is turn a profit and stay in business, period. If that means buying folks who sell more beer then you do,closing your own operation and letting someone else brew for you, perfect! I wonder how many of the "craft brews" will be around in 100-200 years? If you want something interesting to read, how about the histories of the major US breweries? Amazing tales of beer and business they are.
