In Reply To #1 I'd reccommend Sammuel Smith's taddy Porter as well. After reading the posts I want to try Magic Hat
Baltic porters (which may be bottom fermented): I'd highly recommend Sinebrychoff Porter (Finland, available in the US). Excellent! Carnegie Stark Porter (Sweden, also available in the US) is very good too. Three Danish ones ("porter" and "stout" are used interchangably there) are Carls Porter (Carlsberg), Limfjordsporter Double Brown Stout (Thisted Bryghus) and Ceres Royal Stout - they are all worth sampling, but may be difficult (or impossible) to find in the US. Aldaris Porteris (Latvia) is decent too, but not quite as good as the above IMO. A.Le Coq Jõuluporter is a decent Christmas porter from Estonia, but their ordinary Porter is less interesting. The only American Porter I've had is Anchor Porter, which is very good. If you want an English porter (after all, they invented it!), Nethergate Old Growler is available in the US.

Stone Smoked porter is pretty good if you can get it in your area. Cooperstown Brewery make a porter called bench warmer. Its on my list to try
