General Beer Discussion by BRADPEAR

http://ohhh.myhead.org/ Home of the most skewed beer ratings on the web You all ever seen this site before? I stumbled up on it looking at Baltic Porters. They do not have my taste buds (so what...) (Drie Fonteinen Schaarbeekse Kriek as best of best-been there drank it-taste like soda pop with alcohol) BUT they sure got some brews down, and a nice site to navigate as well. The FAQ pretty much sums em up. Have fun. This message was edited by Brad Pear at 4/28/2005 10:30:25 AM.

In Reply To #2 The skewered line is from the site not my words. I find it to be an interesting, and well laid out. This line says it all: And besides, when it all comes down to it, all opinions are subjective, These are our points of view and not some kind of universal truth we present. Damn straight. I was was looking into drinking in the Eastern part of Europa, and mates, these folks got it spelled by country. It sure would be fun to get us all together with these folks and the ones from BierTest.de! I'd drink with em any day. This message was edited by Brad Pear at 4/28/2005 12:13:37 PM. In Reply To #9 Precisely, I wasn't sure where you were going with the thread. Seems some people don't share our philosophy. Cheers Eric This message was edited by E at 4/28/2005 12:10:28 PM.

In Reply To #1 & 6 Brad, thanks for sharing the link. I like the site and have bookmarked it. I like that they acknowledge the sources of help and inspiration. Goliath, I don't get the same reaction to the name as you. I think it's funny and playful--not advocating excessive consumption. The members seem to be having a good time with the site--trying new beers and sharing their experiences. That seems pretty cool to me!

Per is the man. I've met him, and his knowledge of beer is unbelievable. He is a tough rater though, doesn't rate many things above a 4 in a 5 point scale.

Man, his site is very indepth and layed out extremely well. It is a pretty big database. On a final note, the ratings did not seem that skewed, maybe I just did not look at many beers. However and just for reference, I saw Old Foghorn Barleywine on the site, it got a 2.94 out of 5.0 and that seems reasonable. I think it may have that rating on this site by a member. Bottomline, ratings as well as your experience with the beer is all relative.

Wow whats up with all this. Per has over 5000 beer ratings and is published in several beer magazines and journals. I say leave the man and his site alone. He didnt do anything to us.

In Reply To #9 Thats right all opinions are subjective. Even the ratings on BP seem a bit skewed IMO. Last time I looked Guinness was ranked 13th And Chimay blue was 2nd. While these are fine brews but the rankings seem a bit high for true craft adovocates. It's all good though because it is fun just to see others opinions. In Reply To #16 That has to do with the rating weighting system, which was changed a couple weeks ago. As other beers receive more ratings, they could pass those two.
