bottles and cans just clap ya hands

General Beer Discussion by AABREWER318

The bottle is the face of a beer...I'll bet a lot of you, like me, have a collection of empties on your shelf reveling in tasty memories................. What are your favorite bottles of beer in terms of looks? Interesting shape, artwork? I like Leffe blonde- a masterpiece!----- also the whimsical little paintings from the Lang Creek brewery in Montana.

I've said before and I'll say it again: Unibroue Maudite has the best label of all time! Other good ones include... Unibroue La Fin Du Monde Unibroue Trois Pistoles Boulevard Pale Ale (love those hop vines) New Belgium Biere De Mars (I'd buy a poster of that..or the Maudite)

As regards bottle - Zipfer from Austria has nice shape, and labels - there are so many nice beer bottle labels all over the world. Well, I collect beer caps, so this thing for me is mostly important when I see new beer. The most beautiful cap in my collection is from Brauerei Pinkus Muller (Germany). Germans produces so many caps, but some of them are real masterpieces. But mostly I enjoy those Canadian Labatt and Molson series with NHL, etc.

In Reply To #1 While I am not a fan of the beer, I think Arrogant Bastard has the neatest label.....I also find something very intriguing about those short stubby bottles from the Van Steenberege brewery....Definitely a part of my collection....Also, if any of you have ever seen the labels from the De Dolle Brewery line of Belgians, I think you will agree, they are in a (cartoonish) class by themselves... In Reply To #1 There are actually people who collect bottles. I know a guy who has over 10,000 different ones and trades with people all over the world...I guess we all have to have a hobby.

In Reply To #1 Oh yeah I love the smiling monk on St. Benardus. It's the same look I have after drinking the contents. Three floyds labels are pretty isane.

The Pink Floyd fan in me suggests I bring up the Magic Hat labels. By the way, Heart of Darkness Stout is the best name out there (since Maudite, anyway).

In Reply To #12 Yep, I love those Lang labels, too. I get a bit of a kick out of St. Arnold's Summer Pils, with the "patron saint of beer" wearing tie-dye. The Flying Dog labels are way too twitchy to me. They seem a bit forced. Although it's a pretty horrid beer, I have some of the old cans of Schmidt's, with the rainbow trout on the label. Very handsome. Oh, and now that I think of it, Odell's Cutthroat Porter is also very nice, with the trout trying to spit the fly.
