Our basic idea with this beer originated while making Xbeeriment Barack. When we’d done that we thought "What if we took it further?" So we decided to go for it and create an Imperial Stout made with 5 different kinds of malt including substantial amounts of peat smoked malt, roasted barley and 3 different hop varieties. We then added a 4th variety for dry hopping. Finally it was bottled unfiltered, bottle conditioned and left to mature in the bottle for 2 months before release. Serve at 12-14 degrees Celcius (53-57 degrees Fahrenheit).

Half liter bottle pours dark mahogany with full firm mocha colored head. The aroma is rich with dark roasted malts, chocolate malts, a mild level of rauch like malts, spicy black licorice and a touch of peat. The taste is rich too and near velvety on the palate with dark roasty malts, chocolate malts and then idling into a smooth rauch maltiness nuanced by a dash of peat. On to midway and into the finish some burnt malts join in too. Yummy stuff.

Bottle. Pours black with a small medium brown head. A delicious smell of hops is my first impression. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt balanced with pine and citrus from the hops. Slightly sweet, but with a very nice spicy, bitter finish. Delicious beer!

Purchased at the LCBO a year ago. Pours a real dark brown colour with red highlights. Big beige creamy-frothy head, long lasting with some good lacing. Beautiful peaty malt nose with dark fruits, roasted malts, licorice, sweet chocolate and mild coffee. Smooth mouthfeel, medium-bodied. The taste has lots of anise over the roasted malts, which is not showing as sweet as the nose gave out to be. Alcohol is very well-hidden behind the darkness. Complex and definitely worth trying. Wish I would of bought more to cellar.

Quite a difference between lcbo abv to the brewers. However this is a very good beer. Great flavour has a taste of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, smoke, caramel sweetness and a touch of hops helps too. Should have bought more.

Pours a thick frothy brownish head and has a very dark appearance. Aromas of dark roasted malts, breads, oats and some light chocolate and vanilla hints. The smoke like flavours is noticeable almost immediately. A rich creamy/malty taste accentuated with strong toffee and caramel notes. Also some flavours of nuts, toast and bready malts. Hops are harder to discern, mainly some spices and earthy hops. Astringent and prickly sensation with a nice warming mouthfeel. At 8.4% (on label stuck to back of bottle) alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottle - puts a deep black-brown clouded ale in the glass with a 2 finger tight pored tan cap - which laces up the glass sides.a aroma is somewhat understated for what awaits the palate. Big roasy flavour (coffee/coca) with complimentary bittering and s lovely mouthfeel/body from terrified grain. light smoke tones...long lush wet finish. A great impy.

    October 19, 2013
LCBO Outlet #511 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – King / Spadina)
    500ml bottle
8.4% ABV (sticker placed on back of bottle)
    $6.25
The beer pours a beautiful opaque black colour with a thin tan creamy head that lasted throughout. The aroma was roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium full, with average carbonation. The flavour was a complex arrangement of dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla and coffee.

Black with a small creamy tan-coloured head. Roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, lemony hops and cocoa-powder in the aroma. Full-bodied with notes of anise, pepper, burnt malts, black chocolate, licorice, orange-peels and mild flemon. Long bitter finish of burnt malts, black chocolate, mild vanilla, resin with a whiff of citric fruits.
