Introducing BIG METAL, a 10.2% Oak Lagered Dopplebock... We love experimenting with different styles and techniques, sometimes we take a modern approach, but other times we prefer to opt for the more traditional methods. With this particular release, it was very much the latter. BIG METAL, an oak lagered Doppelbock is about as traditional as you can go. It was an absolute blast to see this one develop from grain to glass, especially since it was a collaborative effort with our good friends over at @ohsobrewery. After brewing, this one took a 4 month long nap in some oak, specifically very special Lagrimas de Oro barrels that came from Superstition Meadery. The body and carb on this one are top notch. Big malty notes balanced by delightful sweetness reminiscent of raisin puree and deep, dark dreams. Big pie spice notes! The barrel character is present in this one in the best way possible, oaky and robust.

    Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

Pint can pours with a mahogany colored body that supports a fairly tight creamy tan head of foam the has specks of white. The aroma offers up inviting dark fruity esters coated in drizzles of caramel where I get plum, sugar stewed raisin and fig flowing into a nice oak note that goes from spicy oak to blunted malt aged oakiness. The taste delivers a pleasing blend of dates, plums and figs that meet up with caramel candy reduced sugars. To midway it develops a sherry nuanced oak sensation rimmed thinly by spicy oakiness. This comes across as an oaky lager barleywine and I like it.
