At Wild Rose it’s “Special Old Bitter.” However, this leads to the small problem of dealing with the words “old” and “bitter” - not exactly two words you want describing your beer. Regardless, we celebrate the fact that our S.O.B. is brewed in the classic English style of an ordinary bitter. When you make great beer, why hide behind fancy words trying to convince everyone it is something other than what it really is? Wild Rose S.O.B. True to style and whatever you want it to be. Golden-bronze colour and light in body, Wild Rose S.O.B. is delicately hopped and refreshingly delicious. Very gentle and approachable, this classic English ale is an excellent choice to enjoy as a "session beer." Wild Rose SOB is affectionately known as the "little brother" to Wild Rose IPA. It is full of flavour, but lighter in alcohol and not too hoppy.

Bottle: Aptly named SOB Poured a deep gold with a small white cap. Modest carbonation. Aromas of musty grain husk, caramel and some grassiness. Thin mouth feel. Decent enough blast of caramel malting in front but thins out mid palate and goes to a semi bitter thin finish. Not the nest bitter I’ve endured.

Clean motor with a ¼” cap, nice retention. Dusty mild hops, milk (yes I smell milk), and some low grade coffee enter the nose. First sip beer seems to be drinkable but has some ungoodness. Weak watery malts, some melon flavored hops, honey and dust. Moth feel is smooth and nicely carbonated. This tasting better this time then other times I’ve sampled it, I think they need to beef up the malts to fill up the flavor more. I drank this wasn’t offended but I’ll never reach for it ever again or recommend any one buy it.

What a crap label! It would be nice if someone would put some thought into the design. Will this beer live up to the label? Lets hope it's a hell of a lot better.
Pours out a dirty blonde beer with a foamy white cap that leaves a bit of spotty lacing. Weak colour, dudes - this isn't going well. Ack! Terrible aroma. Cardboard that has been wet for waaay too long, some toasted malts, unfamiliar hops and weak spice. I think it's the malts that really ruin this swill. The taste is better but not by much. It's almost painful to drink - the mix of bleck malts and hops with their terrible sharp and harsh bitterness ruins this. No, what ruins this is that I can smell it every time I go to take a sip. Notable sourness that builds quickly from the middle to the finish. Bland often. Man, that was pretty hard to drink. I can imagine that this is much better fresh and on tap. The bottle says "100% wild by volume"... if it's wild, then let it go free so I can shoot it through the neck and watch it bleed out.

I have had the SOB a number of times and always enjoy having a pint at the new brewery and tasting room location. Beer is a clear, and dark golden color with a thin layer of foam. Good head retention and some traces of lace. There is a yeast smell to go a long with the floral hops, but not the big hoppy aromas expected in a bitter. The taste is more on the malty side, but it is well balanced with the hop bitterness. The carbonation is quite low makeing it smooth but not flat in the mouth. A nice drinkable ale, but I would have liked a bit more bitter kick to it, but still a good sessional.
