Hidden in the beautiful dark amber color are aromas of vanilla and caramel that compliment perfectly the presence of bourbon. Soft oak flavors transition into a sweet yet slightly dry finish. After aging the ale for four months, the malt and hop complexity of Brrr has melded harmoniously with the bourbon barrels and become a truly one of a kind beer.

Better than I thought. Winter/Strong Ales are hit or miss for me...lots of times too sweet. The bourbon barrel aging didn't create too strong of a sweet flavor, and not overwhelmingly oaky too. Also had some hoppiness to it. Easy drinking for the ABV%. Murky mahogany appearance. A little pricey, so probably wouldn't have gotten on my own, but worth sharing with a buddy or two.

Strong aroma has a decided overtone of bourbon-soaked wood, as well as fruity and malty tones. It pours a beautiful clear golden amber with a decent light golden tan head. Flavor has a strong woody bourbon overtone, which dominates the flavor but still lets through malt and apple/pear notes, plus just a hint of caramel. Smooth texture has slightly above average body and quite a bit of fizz, leaving a tingly, woody finish. This is a bold beer for bold people.

Pours orange with no head. Loads of bourbon favor, nice round clean mouth. Aroma has nice bourbon oak and and a little pepper. Perfectly fantastic apertif ..

6 oz sample at the Tap House in Seattle. I am a big fan of Brrr so I had high hopes for this. Unfortunately, the barrel aging mutes the hop flavors and makes it a bit boozy. Good but I like the regular version better.

Malty sweet aroma with some citrus hop. Poured a clear cranbury brown color with very little carbonation. Very full body is not so easy to get down. Very sweet to start with the bourbon barrels adding a nice complexity. Finishes fairly hoppy with a bite. A strong beer that would be welcome any winter night. Much better than their Brrr, but not worth the huge price. I guess that's the price you pay for a beer that comes in a box! As I burp I can feel the alcohol burn ha.

Brought to a past winter tasting by a friend and shared amongst four of us. Teetering on greatness, it's a well put together strong ale with a subtle bourbon barrel influence. All the pieces are there, but the flavor came up a bit short compared to the other aspects. Good beer, but not for what my friend said he shelled out for it

Impressive packaging on this one. And from my pleasant experience with my first in the Reserve series I was looking forward to a great drink. This one, a deep brown-amber colored beer. But the head is small, soapy in texture. The off white head is the biggest disappointment in this beer. It disappears quickly, though leaves a decent ringlet. The whiskey flavoring of oak is dominant in the nose and the tasting. But it is a nice smooth 'whiskey' on the palate. Light bodied, warming alcohol bite. Overall pretty good.

Nice aromas with some citrus hops, fruits, sweet caramel malts and as it warmed a little vanilla comes out. The body is a murky brown with orange hues, very little head or lace. Flavor is dominated by wood and alcohol with some hops poking through, mouthfeel is full and dry.

Sampled on 11/6/2010. This American Strong Ale pours a light to medium amber brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with nice lacing and god retention. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet, bourbon, oak and vanilla. A medium to full bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are carmel, fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Decent carbonation. Nice flavors of bourbon, oak and wood, definitely present but not overwhelming. Nice sipping beer. Good winter warmer. Good aging potential. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
