This crisp and clean pre-prohibition lager reflects the way beer was made before pre-prohibition. Local grains and hops, a touch of roasted corn and a hint of smoke will take you back to the bootlegging days.

You have to like the honesty with this brew. They tell you up front that they use flaked corn in the brewing process, so it is no surprise that you get some notes of corn in both the aroma and flavour. It’s a dark metallic gold colour, quite clear, and is topped by a small white cap. There is some smokiness in the air along with some citrusy hops, grains, and hints of corn. The flavour brings both the corn and smokiness more to the front. Not bad, but I feel sorry for pre-prohibition drinkers if this was a steady diet of what was around.

Pours a clean, very slight haze at most, light-golden colour with a foamy off-white head, decent retention and some soapy lace. Malt aromas with citrus notes. With time, the nose changes for the worst with wheat, maybe corn and some weird (almost fake) hops. The smoke appears in the taste over the light cereal grains. Some decent hops in the finish. Interesting brew, but not something I would seek again. Love the smoked grain, but a little too much hops for this style.

Pours a good size foamy bubbly head that doesn't stick around too long. Has a golden appearance and some sticky lacing remains. Aromas are mainly grainy, some notes of grassy hops and wheats. Flavours actually have a bit of smokey notes at the forefront. Also some notes of wheats, toasty malts, subtle sweet hints mostly in the finish. Pretty good retention and has an average mouthfeel. Lively carbonation.
