http://beerstreetjournal.com/weyerbacher-sunday-morning-stout-the-best-part-of-waking-up/ If you were to ask our opinion about Weyerbacher (Easton, PA) we would tell you they make a lot of amazing barrel aged offerings that don’t get the press they deserve. From Insanity (barleywine in bourbon), to Heresy (imperial stout in bourbon), even their Sour Black and Rapture beers are pretty incredible. They just don’t get the buzz like other breweries. Perfect really, more for those who know. Above – Sunday Morning Stout, a barrel aged noob in the works from brewmaster Chris Wilson and his team at Weyerbacher. Aptly named too, as SMS is a stout aged in bourbon barrels with coffee. The best part of waking up.

    Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

Pours opaque black-coffee sable with a thick and rather persistent chocolate head. Aroma presents coffee, bourbon, dusty wood and smoky roast malt notes - and is that a whiff of pepper, or am I smelling things? Flavor rolls wood, quality coffee, roast malt, smoky and bourbon tones across the tongue. Ha ha, this will get your brain’s attention! OK, so I ain’t drinking this on Sunday morning - I’m Chaotic Good. Mouthfeel is firm and viscous, if not overly fizzy, leaving a woody and coffee finish with some bourbon. Yep, the best part of waking up is BEER in your cup!

Pours old a nice deep dark brown color right on the edge of being black. The aroma is very pleasing . The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. The taste is full of coffee flavor but just a little to sweet for my taste.
