For our Second Anniversary beer, we tapped into the legendary fictional adventures of the mythical Cap’n Skoon to bring you this monster Baltic Stout. It’s big and roasty like an Imperial Stout but fermented with a German lager yeast. Ideal for sipping now, or be like the Cap’n and stash some away in your cargo hold for the years to come. Cheers!

One of the prettiest imperial stouts to behold in a glass. Opaque black with a deep brown head that tinges red. Absolutely beautiful. Deep roasted malt on the nose with hints of anise and cherry. Rich and thick mouthfeel while exceptionally smooth, quite drinkable for a strong stout. Notes of licorice, cherry, and figs with a strong roasty backbone. I could drink this one all winter. Loved it.

Rated in Dec. 2013. 22oz bomber pours with a deep dark body that supports a mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, earthy dark chocolate, some chocolate brownie and then a light amount of molasses. The taste delivers rich malt deepened dark roasted malts mixed with dark chocolate goodness and then getting into some vanilla bean and spicy black strap molasses. Wow! This is dynamite dark roasted goodness. Great stuff.

650 ml bottle, kindly shared by gunnar and our beerpal Ole Anders. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Excellent aroma, notes of roasted malts, tobacco and leather. Very roasty flavour, fairly sweet, but still remarkably balanced by decent hops.

Robust, smoky aroma has licorice, coffee, molasses, caramel and semi-sweet chocolate notes. Pours a rich, warm sable a flea’s eyebrow above black with a thick, fine-bubbled and rather persistent tan head. Hearty flavor has a strong smoky malt overtone that ushers in chocolate, coffee, caramel, nutty, earthy and subtle licorice notes that boogie on your tongue and stay long after the beer has gone down the pipes. Firm, smooth, oily texture is fairly fizzy, though the tingle does not persist the way the flavors do. Somewhat bitter hops make their appearance only in the final act, the bitterness nicely balancing the chocolaty sweetness. This is indeed a monster - monstrously delicious!
