Viborg Imperial Stout brewed in the English style like those that were originally exported to the Russian market. The stout we brew here at Viborg bryghus is black, full. We use round handed amounts of peat smoked malt and English licorice. The full flavor and the high alcohol make this a beer for gents and real stout enthusiasts. It’s hand brewed by the use of a gas kettle and open fire, and provides the pronounced caramel flavor. Top fermented and cellared in 4 weeks. We recommend it to accompany lamb, ox, sausages and dark chocolate.

Dark, dark ruby near black with brown foam ring quickly dissapearing. Aroma is bit sweet coffee, some burnt rubber notes indeed. Taste is mix of coffee, licorice, some roasted nut. Not too strong, not quite imperial in my rating. (Velp 201312)

500 ml bottle, batch 22, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 8.0%. Pitch black colour, big to moderate tan head. Moderate but nice aroma of roasted malts, notes of coffee, hints of liquorice and smoke. Full and rich mouthfeel. The flavour is fairly sweet and malty, roasty notes of course, some caramel, tar, coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and smoke again - but not quite as much peat smoke as expected, and that’s quite alright with me. A lovely drop!

Bottled. Hazy dark brown colour, quite close to black. Head was pale brown, and didn’t last for too long. Aroma is fruity along with chocolate and roasted malts. Flavour is smoked and roasted malts along with some weird sticky sweetness of fruits and alcohol. Some mild notes of licorice as it warms up. the sweetness in this one messes it up for me, otherwise it could have been really good.
