Shared at a recent home brew club meeting. Very interesting ale with a whole lot happening. Sweet malts backed by a leather and peat goodness. Strong, but well aged and very mellow. Soft and sultry.

Pours out in a deep brown colour with a creamy beige head. Deep malty aroma of caramel, earth, licorice, nuts, dried fruit and alcohol. Creamy and full malty flavour of caramel, earth, figs, pepper, blackberries, cherries and milky chocolate. Warming long malty finish of caramel, port, fudge and spices.

Another beer that sort of let me down........or did it? Previous barleywine experiences have given me the impression of beer mixed with brandy, and overly sweet, overly alcoholic concoction. This was very different in that it wasn't as sweet, or as alcoholic. The beer pours a clear brownish colour, with a light tan coloured head. The aroma is sweet malt, and some plum. The flavour was some sweet malt, with a nice bitter finish.

This beer poured with a deep, muddy copper colored body topped off by a medium thick creamy light brown head that left good lace. Aroma is earthy malts with some sweet caramel and toffee. Mouthfeel was full bodied, rich and slightly alcoholic. Teh flavor starts off with strong burnt malts, sweet caramel and alcohol; The finish is dry with some bitter grassy hops off setting the caramel malts.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown and burgundy color ale with a medium foamy head with some average retention and some light lacing. Aroma of subtle peat with some toffee malt is well balance. Taste is also a well balance mix between some toffee malt with some subtle notes of peat which is quite enjoyable. Body is quite full with a very nice creamy texture. Very well done and something I would love to have more often.

Bottle, at RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. ABV is 9%. Deep reddish brown to ruby colour. Very oaky and malty aroma and flavour, with plenty of caramel.
