The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation III was made with Black Albert that aged for 3 months on Paul Melia’s (Mes) favorite Whisky, the "Caol Ila’s Distillers Version 1995".

Pours coffee with a thin beige head. Aroma yields caramel and roast malt. Sweet flavor features earthy, caramel, roast malt and molass tones. Texture presents firm body and jazzy fizz. Be damned!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a dirty brown color ale with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of warming scotch notes with light roasted malt with lingering subtle bitter notes. Taste is also dominated by a mix between some warming scotch notes with light bitter roasted malt though not as complex as I had anticipated. Body is quite full with nice creamy texture from the barrel-aging with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well done though I was expecting more complexity from this one.

Bottled (from Struise Beershop). Pitch black colour with mediumsized reddish brown fluffy head, that disappears quite quickly. Aroma is nicely roasted malts, some alcoholic sweetness as well as mild peated and smoked notes. Quite stinging whiskylike sweetness. Flavour is roasted malts, quite peated and smoked as well with some wooden notes. Some liquorice, alcohol, toffee and dark fruits and berries have also found their way into this beautifully balanced beer. A very mellow and balanced Imperial Stout combined with some Caol Ila notes, but in a rather mellow way. As for whiskies I think Caol Ila is a borderline case for me, the 3-4 ones I’ve had have been way too aggressive and brutal for my likes.
