This copper colored beer is actually a lager fermented at warmer temperatures like an ale. This beer is unique in that it traces it’s origins to the San Francisco Bay Area where it was historically referred to as a steam beer. Now called a California Common, our beer boast flavors of toast and caramel that are well balanced with Northern Brewer Hops that are traditional for the style.

Tasted from fresh growler. This California Common pours a dark copper gold color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel, toffee and bready. Medium bodied common. Malts are fruity and sweet. It has that fruity estery flavor of a steam beer. Hops are floral and earthy. Soft malt flavors that kind of just fade away. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

While admittedly, lagers really aren't my favorite beer this is very, very drinkable and it has a unique angle on a lager beer. A bit darker than the "normal" beer, but not as dark as a dunkel. I think Craig (brewer) was going for a unique California style and hits the mark squarely. Aroma is lightly hopped, clean but with a very enjoyable, flicker of roastyness to it. Appearance is like a dark copper in color, very nice head. Mouthfeel is light/medium bodied, finishes very crisp and clean. Flavors were slightly grassy, a good amount of malty sweetness and incredibly balanced. Another one please!
