"In the dusk of winter, when you come in from the cold, grab a Saranac Black Lager to warm up by the fire! This Black, German style Schwarzbier has a full body and dark chocolaty flavor. Look for hints of coffee and waves of maltiness that will make you warm and "roasty"." source www.saranac.com

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6
I tried this one as part of the 12 beers of Winter. Poured black with a thick frothy head. The aroma was faint of malt and hops. The flavor while good was very mild The mouth feel was thin and also faded into nothing. The carbonation was much weaker than I thought it would be given the frothy head. When I saw this I thought it was going to be Saranac Black Forrest with a new label. After I did a side by side taste I found that this was not the case at all. The Black lager was actually closer to Utica Club which I enjoy. This one is good but nothing special.
