By experimenting with both lager and ale yeast strains, the brewers at Sam Adams came up with the concept for a brand new beer – Sam ’76. This truly unique brew takes two active fermentations and blends them together to create a deliciously harmonious result. This process delivers a distinct flavor that showcases the slight fruitiness of an ale with the balanced drinkability and smoothness of a lager. Sam ’76 will surprise any craft beer lover with its huge flavor and aroma along with a light-bodied, refreshing crispness. At just 4.7% ABV, this brew is perfect for those sessionable occasions. Cascade, Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Galaxy hops impart a tropical citrus aroma that gives way to a bright, juicy citrus hop flavor but without the hop bitterness. The brewers have been experimenting for over a year, tested over 60 iterations with multiple combinations of 12 different hop varieties in the nano brewery in Boston in order to perfect the Sam ’76 recipe.

The beer pours a slightly hazed metallic gold colour with a half inch white head which lingers. The aroma is tropical fruit notes, orange, bready malt, and yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grainy malt, some light fruity notes in the background, and a mildly bitter finish. -

Taps somewhat hazy topaz with a respectable ivory head. Aroma produces raw malt, citrus, pomme and subtle resiny hops. Flavor yields raw malt, zesty citrus, pear, a touch of resiny hops. Texture presents firm body and jazzy fizz. Enjoy the "spirit" of 76!

Can in Florida. Pours a hazy golden-yellow colour with an off-white frothy head, average stay and dirty lacing. Orange nose from the hops with some light grassiness. Also, some bread notes from the yeast. This continues into the flavours. Not crazy bitter and some decent dryness. Interesting, but not something I would have again.

Pours a mostly clear bright golden color with medium size of frothy white head. The head leaves a good amount of sticky cobweb lacing before settling into a thin film. Bubbles for days. The aroma is floral and grainy with lots of citrus; namely oranges, grapefruit and lemons. Not an overly hoppy beer but the Citra really pops here. The flavor is bready, with a kiss of citrus. There's a subtle spicy finish. Very clean. Very drinkable. The feel is medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation
