Created by Don Oliver, California. Don says that the blend of distinctive malts in his brew "offers a rich and malty taste that doesn't overpower. It's a full-bodied, heavy ale good for a winter night by the fire."

I bought a doughnut, and they gave me a receipt for the doughnut. I don't need a receipt for the doughnut, man, I'll just give you the money, and you give me the doughnut... end of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I just can't imagine a scenario where I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. Some skeptical friend: "Don't even act like you didn't get that doughnut! I got the doc-u-men-tation right here... oh, wait it's at home... in the file... under 'D'..."

big malty hearty robust describes this beer. has that homebrew quality to it...in a good way, it doesn't taste mass produced. slightly sweet, very lightly hopped.

This is a winner. Nice malty beer with a high alcohol content, what is there not to like. Smooth finish without any taste of alcohol.

Translucent ruby brown with faint residue of a cap floating on top. Smells like sweet coffee and even sweeter caramel and raisins, with just the faintest hint of coconut. Flavor is also like sweet coffee and raisins. Sweet like grapes or plums without any tartness. Almost candy sweet, and doughy. A shadow of bitterness way off in the background and in the finish, not enough to balance it. Almost too much. Needs some strong old cheese to keep it from getting cloying.

Third and final Longshot beer, still watching the Warriors kick the crap outta the Mavericks. Aroma is carmael, raisins, and slightly doughy. Appearance is crystal clear, brown with a nice 1 finger white head. Flavor is malty sweet, raisins, bready, and alcohol. I don't have a ton of experience with the style of Old Ale, but this really reminded me of a barleywine on training-wheels. Really a tasty beer. Kudos to Samuel Adams for producing good beers with the entire Longshot series.

Awesome tasting brew! Pours a dark copperish colour. Fairly large aromatic head. A kickass ABV that really pounds it into you. Oak, whiskey and sweet kona coffee is in the taste.

A brownish amber color with a beige head. A chocolate, caramel, and raisin aroma. The flavor is rather sweet with some chocolate, grapes, caramel, toffee, and nutmeg. This beer is very rich but has a red wine quality to it with the grapes standing out a bit. A bit of alcohol showing in the finish. This is hands down the winner of the Longshot pack! Thanks Don Oliver, you have got me a nice buzz going on!

I hope I'm not showing big beer bias, but this one was strides beyond the other two. Full, malty and minerally aroma, toasty and almost wee heavy-like. Deep brown with a small cap of beige head. Smooth and warming mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Full and malty, like a lighter bodied wee heavy, some earthy hops for balance. This is a good one and I see some age helping, as well.

Pours a perfectly clear medium-dark brown with a good head. The body is a bit on the foamy side and the beer is a bit hot, but other than that, the maltiness is nice and balanced by enough bitterness to not be cloying.

Wow, my second in the Long Shot series, and man they are good. Pour was dark brown with red highlights, nice two finger head which dissipated to a soapy layer. Nice lacing. Very faint aroma of sugar and dark fruits. Flavor...this is one complex beer...caramel base with touches of raisin/fig, toffee and some smokiness. Alcohol kind of shows with a burn at the end, but not unpleasant. Thick as molasses mouthfeel, full of flavor...the most flavorful of all the Sam Adams beers. I hope this one sticks around. Excellent!
