It pours a hazy and non-transparent dark-brown with a thin light-tan head and a ring of surrounding lacing. A nutty aroma of roasted malts, hops, caramel and chocolate, oranges and citrus notes, bitterness and spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth and fairly rich. Flavors of roasted caramel malts, hops, chocolate, coffee, oranges and citrus, nuttiness, bitterness and spices. Excellent!

dark fruit, sweet carmel malt and a hint of smoke in the nose and flavor. medium bodied and goes down easy. just a touch on the simple side, but a decent representation of a good style. 11/11-7 oz bottle now. didn't used to be anywhere near this good. not smokey, but sweet, rich, a little peaty and ridiculously smooth. this is what a scotch ale should taste like. best rogue brew i've had in a long while.

Mini bottle from Suds to go along with one I bought - makes one regular beer. Murky medium tea brown with slight tight cream head and lazy lacing. Head reduces to a constant ring. Sweet very ripe fruity aroma with requisite sweet malts, a touch of citrus, a bit of wet dirt. Taste is sweet malts and ripe fruits with just a little earthy peat. Nice for a cool wet day. Thanks Suds!

hmm, a surprise here .. . dark fruit, non sweetened with dark caramel and a light nuttiness .. . very smooth .. . not as complex as some scotches but an enjoyable little brew .. . would pair nicely with a sweet nutty gouda or a sharp sharp cheddar and a mild cigar .. . this is how a crab walks...

Never had a seven oz beer before now, mcrogue pours a murky brown red with no head or lace. Aroma and flavor sweet malt and not much else, although one dimensional it's not a bad scotch ale, a nice beginner.

~ Year 2000 7-oz bottle.
*Sigh* What's with these damn little Rogue bottles and their lack of carbonation? I've had three 7-oz'ers from Rogue that past few months, and each one has had exactly zero carbonation. No amount of aggressive pouring produces even the slightest hint of a head, and don't even think about asking for any sort of Belgian lacing.
That having been said, this does have a fairly respectable nose to it, and the flavor profile has the classic malt n' peat smoke n' carmelized wort character that all good Scotch Ales pride themselves on. Even the finish is satisfactory, and that's coming from someone who doesn't neccesarily considers himself to be a huge Scotch Ale fan.
But both the drinkability and mouthfeel suffer from something this flat and lifeless. Like a few other quality beers that end up D.O.A. carbonaton-wise, I'd be tempted to toss a few of these into a Corny keg and force carbonate it. But since I have this measly 7-oz sample to go by, that's not going to happen.
A tasty Scotch Ale, if you can find one that has retained some sort of carbonation.

reddish/brown color, lots of alcohol in the flavor, ok but not a great beer.

1996... Poured a hazy brown color with no head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, nuts, light roast and alcohol. Taste of chocolate, roast, peat, and caramel. Smooth, flat mouthfeel.
